707 Cordova is a storybook Tudor on this year’s Hollywood Home Tour.

You know that Hollywood Heights is flush with some of the cutest cottages in all of Dallas. Thanks to the neighborhood’s well-thought-out conservation overlay, the homes in this popular East Dallas enclave still retain the charm of bygone eras. And your best bet to get an eyeful of that charm is attending the annual Hollywood Home Tour. This year is no exception, especially with 707 Cordova — pictured above — on the tour.

Of course, we’d love for you to experience this storybook Tudor cottage — as well as the other beautiful homes on this year’s tour — for free! Organizers with this annual fundraiser have generously given us two pairs of tickets to give away to our fans and readers, and we could not be more thrilled to give four lucky people the chance to see the amazing homes showcased on April 21-22.

Now, if you don’t win, we hope you’ll still attend this year’s tour and the “Art in the Park” market at Lindsley Park on both Saturday and Sunday. Home tour passes $15 in advance (available online or at Curiousities Antiques in Lakewood) and $20 on the day of the tour.  There’s also a themed auction party on Friday, April 20, at the Dallas Arboretum.

The 2018 Hollywood Heights Home Tour

Don’t miss this adorable bungalow on the 2018 Hollywood Heights Home Tour!

“Never judge a book by its cover.” That adage applies to homes as well. This 1938 Hollywood Heights bungalow at 6915 Santa Monica Drive is an excellent example of why that saying is true. Although the façade has been painted, it doesn’t give a hint about what lies beyond the front door. That’s one of the reasons this amazing home is included in the 2018 Hollywood Heights Home Tour, coming up April 20-22.

The Blythe family in their open and bright new build at 6919 Santa Fe.

When the Blythe family moved to the Hollywood Santa Monica neighborhood years ago, they fell in love with the style and charm of the Tudors and traditionals in the area. But with a family, it made things quite difficult to enjoy their 1930s home on Monte Vista with a cramped floorplan. Then they found this beautiful new build (RARE!) on Santa Fe. It’s so uncommon to find a new home, because the only way you could tear down a structure in this historic conservation district is if it’s damaged beyond reasonable repair. So most new homes are on previously vacant lots or are constructed at the site of some catastrophe.

When new builds blend in with the neighborhood, though, everyone wins. I love the subtle architectural details, like the high pitch of the roof and the masonry of the chimney. Even the stone arches in front and faceted leaded glass windows keep the home true to the neighborhood’s character. Inside, though, homeowner Kalee Blythe says it really shines!

If you want to see inside this home and the other gorgeous abodes on this weekend’s Hollywood Santa Monica Neighborhood Association Home Tour, you can buy your ticket ahead of the event and save a few bucks. They’re just $15 apiece before the tour! The auction party, another big fundraiser for the neighborhood, is tonight, as is the candlelight home tour and preview party.

Faubion House 2

Caitlin and Tyler Faubion fell in love with the potential inside their Hollywood Heights Tudor on Patricia. Right when they walked in the front door they could imagine open spaces, a lovely updated kitchen, and a sunroom that brought in the beauty of the outdoors.

There are so many wonderful touches in this home that make it feel absolutely classic, like those mahogany French doors and windows hewn by a close relative of the Faubions, as well as the subtly elegant details like crystal chandeliers and perfectly refinished hardwood floors. And while this home clocks in at about 1,260 square feet, the openness that allows you to easily navigate the common areas of the house make it feel much larger.

This will definitely be a popular property on this year’s Hollywood Santa Monica Neighborhood Association Home Tour, so don’t wait to buy your tickets and show your support of this active historic conservation district in East Dallas! You can purchase your tickets to the April 25-26 home tour online, as well as register for the silent auction on April 24 hosted by the Dallas Arboretum.
