Make the Leap to Lake Bonham With This Luxury Home on a Peaceful Cove

Lake Bonham offers a serene lifestyle you won’t find anywhere else. When you spot a beautiful, completely reinvented home, it’s time to take that leap to lake life.
Melinda Faranetta and her husband, David, bought a home on Lake Bonham in 2008 and cannot imagine anywhere that compares to it.
“The lake is shaped like a hand with several coves spread out like fingers and it has a lot of shoreline,” Faranetta said. “Each cove is a different community. The greatest attraction of this lake is that it’s family-friendly. Kids can safely swim, and jet ski.”

Faranetta had been eyeing this house for a long time. It was hard not to, because she was living next door! As a design-industry veteran, gutting this house was not the least bit daunting. She hired architect William Briggs of Briggs Architecture & Design to help her vision come to life.
“He did a phenomenal job,” Faranetta said. “We took this house to the studs, replaced plumbing, electric, and HVAC. Most existing houses on the lake have to be tweaked, but I wanted to offer a house that was completely done, and I was intent on saving the 150-year-old oak tree between the houses!”

The kitchen was moved to overlook the lake, two more bedrooms and two principal bathrooms were added. Faranetta essentially customized it for her own family. She and her husband both cook, so the kitchen is a masterpiece of not only design but also functionality. The marble was chosen to replicate the gentle waves on Lake Bonham, making it almost disappear into the view.

The 10-foot island was purposely built without a sink or cooktop. I think that’s brilliant because you end up seating everyone at the island anyway. Faranetta also created gorgeous cabinetry to conceal all the things you never want displayed, allowing you to focus on the beautiful water views. The house is now 2,864 square feet with four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Because Faranetta understands lake life so well, she knew that outdoor living was just as important as indoor living. In addition to the more public spaces, she designed a private patio off the principal suite. “Even when the kids are here and gathering on the main patio, we can go and sit with our wine and books, and it’s quiet,” she said.

One of the most loved and unexpected features on the 1.22-acre property is what Faranetta calls The Shed.
“It was a work room for the original owner,” she said. “We staged it to be a hangout space for kids. It looks right down the cove with incredible views, and of course, it’s where they all want to stay when they come to visit now.”

The dock is original and does not block the view of Lake Bonham from the house. It can fit a pontoon or fishing boat, and you can walk right down to the lake and jump in for a swim.

With this property, convenience is key. The home is fully staged, down to the linens and dishes, showing exactly how it lives and guess what? You can negotiate for the furnishings, then all you need to do is bring your suitcases!
