You Can Enjoy Lake Life and Wine Country Less Than Two Hours From Dallas

Lake houses make for great family memories and 1000% relaxation. Your blood pressure goes down, your pace slows, some say you even add a few years to your life. That’s one reason why my good friend Glenn Phillips, CEO of Lake Homes Realty in Birmingham, Alabama, says the buying process for a lake home takes about two years — far longer than traditional residential timelines.
But when they finally do buy, owners of vacation homes kick back and enjoy every single minute of that easy-living lifestyle.

We have a lake home one hour and 28 minutes from Dallas that is like one giant cushy sofa: 312 Pebble Beach Drive in Trinidad, Texas. Even better, it’s affordable, and can be purchased fully furnished.
Built in ’78, Remodeled in 2023
This Midcentury Modern-style ranch home was built in 1978, tastefully remodeled just two years ago with vestiges of the home’s original charm. Coming in at just under 2,000 square feet, you could not ask for a better weekend lake house for a family or a retiring couple seeking a respite from the high costs of D/FW living. The home has also been an active short-term rental because of its proximity to DFW.

The property: breathtaking views and that incredible waterfront presence with fire pit happy hours at waters edge, plus open water access at one of the most coveted lakes in North Texas. Designed for family fun, there are three comfortable bedrooms plus a bunk room that sleeps four — imagine the memories the kids will make in that room!
There is a gathering game room, a large stainless steel kitchen with huge island for entertaining, and a spacious backyard deck overlooking the lake. Meticulously maintained, there is a brand new HVAC system (among other updates) for efficient cooling come August. No dock, but seller has a bid to build a low-profile, modern single-slip boathouse.

A Family Lake Compound?
Last spring, I had the chance to visit one of my dear cousins at their family lake house in northern Indiana on Lake Wawasee, the largest natural lake in the state. For years I had heard of how their extended family gathered at one end of this glistening, gorgeous lake, at five homes under ownership by different families in a compound. In fact, they spent more time at the lake than in their respective primary homes. Eating was one giant progressive meal — breakfast was eggs and bacon at one house, Jenn’s famous pancakes at another. Dinner often took place at the largest house — my cousin’s. Before dinner, everyone gathered hands, prayed, and followed a tradition initiated by the founding patriarch: a countdown of everyone gathered.

The night I flew in, there were 71.
This home may be a few thousand miles away from northern Indiana, but it carries the same sentiment. The home has family compound potential: the lot adjacent to the house, not currently for sale, could be purchased. The combined lots would create 2/3 of an acre and the opportunity to expand the existing home or add another home. The Triple N Ranch Winery is nearby for a vineyard outing.
Pebble Beach is offered at $774,900, an incredible price for more than a third of an acre lakefront on one of the most beautiful and sought-after lakes in North Texas.

Where is Trinidad?
Located on the western edge of Cedar Creek, Trinidad is in Henderson County, on the Trinity River’s east fork. Trinidad follows the winding Trinity River tributary. The northern boundary of the city follows the dam at the southern end of the Cedar Creek Reservoir. Just below the center of the lake, Trinidad sits on the deepest waters from the river after which the town’s was named. It’s quiet, serene, and restful in a rural area. In the 2020 census, Trinidad had a whopping population of 860, down a hair from 886 in 2010. That’s welcome news to Trinidad.
That’s why 312 Pebble Beach Drive is the perfect property for a second home at the lake or even a primary home year-round. This easy-living home has complete open water access on a cove offering 360 degree lake access and a future single-slip boathouse in your front yard.
And wait until you see the sunsets.
