Designed by the Mind Behind Easton Place, This ’70s Contemporary Home Could Be Yours

Easton Place is simply one of the coolest neighborhoods in Dallas. Tucked into a cul-de-sac off of Easton Road, it is a time capsule of 1970s shed-style homes heavily influenced by the environmental movement of the late 1960s.
By the time the first Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970, California’s Sea Ranch community was well underway. Built to be in tune with the area’s natural beauty, it has influenced architecture for generations. One young architect in particular took inspiration from Sea Ranch and brought it to fruition in Easton Place.

Mike Jones had just finished his architecture degree at Texas A&M in 1974, so of course, he studied Sea Ranch. After college, he went to work for a builder. Through a series of unexpected opportunities, Jones ventured out on his own in 1978 and purchased lots in Easton Place.
With visions of Sea Ranch fresh in mind, a quiet enclave of shed-style homes began to unfold. The then 25-year-old designed and built the first home here at 951 Easton Place.
“I soon bought the lot next door at 957 Easton and designed and built my home, next door to my client’s, ” Jones said. “We both moved in in 1979, and our families became not only neighbors but also the closest of friends for the next 19 years.”
“They were challenging designs with the terrain, the contemporary nature of the neighborhood, and wanting to save as many trees as we could,” Jones said. “ We were building custom starter homes, so it was a young crowd in the neighborhood, and everyone became friends.”
Jones is responsible for 14 of the homes here, including one he built for himself. It’s the one we are showcasing today, and it can be yours!

Jones built his home around a tree, which pretty much says all you need to know about the design ethos here. The home is 2,565 square feet, with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and a dedicated home office space.
Of course, updates have been made over the years, with the living room cleverly concealing a motorized home theater screen over the fireplace. What will catch your eye the moment you enter this home, however, is the dramatic principal bedroom perched over the living area like a glass jewel box.

The kitchen has been fully updated with custom Cantoni satin glass cabinetry, black quartzite countertops, a Bosch induction cooktop with in-ceiling vent, and a Bosch dishwasher.

Because Easton Place homes were designed to be at one with nature, lush greenery is visible through enormous windows and doors in every room. Outside, a large deck is surrounded by landscaping and, of course, more trees! A small, heated, and jetted pool features a cascade waterfall, perfect for relaxing in the evening with your neighbors!

Compass Realtor Abigail Davis has 957 Easton Place available for $950,000. If you are a dancer, be sure to have Davis show you one of the more intriguing aspects of this home!
