Can Mike Miles Whip DISD Into Shape as Fast as He Sold His North Dallas Home?

I would like to think so. There are so many varying opinions out there on his performance, and as for this last round of doo-doo, I am still not sure I understand. What did Mike Mikes do that was so wrong and grounds for dismissal? Oh, he did not support his board, that’s it. And he leaked things to Jim Schutze at the Dallas Observer courting his support I guess, and trying to make himself look better than the board, allegedly. You know what they say: sometimes you have to be your own PR person. Maybe he has been too heavy-handed, his ego has enjoyed too much mountain air. But it was pretty darn rotten of his “detractors” to protest in front of his Hockaday house on his son’s birthday!
Don’t protest there again: Miles closed Thursday on the home, which was not in MLS, so the sales price won’t be published. You know what that means: give me a few days.
Meantime, Mike, now that the house is sold, why don’t you and the board all go on a retreat together and do some ropes courses? Maybe take the board to Colorado Springs for some white water rafting… might cost less than a hundred grand!
Candy, would you want to try to work with that board? They better try to get Miles to stay because no one is going to want that job after all this!

That's what I fear. I can not consider myself an expert on DISD because I have not closely followed the stories, but it seems to me that this Paul Coggins investigation is so petty. And I agree, the board is ridiculously divisive. I wonder if we could break up the District. Course, I am not an advocate of busing either, preferring the neighborhood schools. What I do know is that the bad rap of DISD kills our real estate values, hence I am paying attention.

Well I have a kiddo in DISD and the problems are deep and wide. The district is so large it's impossible, in my humble opinion, to support all of it properly. Candy you are spot on. It DOES need to be broken up. We don't have to bus anyone. We just need to break it up into smaller districts that can actually be managed. The other issue is who votes for school board members? It's probably one of the most uncontested races in Dallas. A vast majority don't take the time to investigate the candidates nor even bother showing up to vote. This is one issue I can talk long and hard about. I can say some trustees email me back immediately when I ask questions, others I've never heard back from and I DO ask a lot of questions : )

It is a tough job, but it can be done. The best thing you can do for DISD is to volunteer in a school…and not just the ones that are doing well – they don't need help like the under-performing schools. Doing so changed my whole perspective.
We need to talk about this. I am seriously thinking of doing something…
