This modern Malakoff lakehouse redefines lake living. I wasn’t surprised that it was designed by architect Josh Nimmo, but I was surprised to see him design a lakehouse. I’ve been fascinated by Nimmo’s work for years, and watching his evolution has been inspiring. I never expected to see his work at Long Cove on Cedar Creek Lake in Malakoff. It will change the way we look at lakehouses forever.

My interest in Nimmo began in 2017 when a house down the street from our publisher’s former home was built. Nimmo calls it the House on Ricks. We called it the Glass House because there is a continuous flow of floor-to-ceiling glass throughout the home. Candy kept us updated, and when it hit the market, we, of course, covered it. It was bold, dramatic, and a new look for Dallas. Then, when he designed the Outcrop cylindrical homes at Urban Commons, I realized I was seeing next-level genius.

Having a lake house with the architectural honesty, appreciation for raw materials, and sensitivity to the environment that are hallmarks of Nimmo’s work is truly a delight. Add in the definite nod to Midcentury Modern style, and you have captured the hearts of so many of us.

At NIMMO, we are driven to design for the human experience, collaborating with clients and craftspeople in an iterative discovery process that is deeply rooted in context, sensitive to the environment, and anchored by authenticity. We form poetic spaces that invite exploration, inspire reflection, and nurture belonging. We create an architecture meant to endure.

“It’s an iconic home,” Compass listing agent Suzanne Warner said. “Every time you enter, you notice something else that is intentional. It’s incredibly flexible to allow for the ebb and flow of your lifestyle and creates privacy so you can have different experiences throughout the house.”

Situated on a pie-shaped 0.77-acre lot with 227 linear feet of water-view frontage, it’s on a cul-de-sac, offering a great deal of privacy. The house has 5,018 square feet, four bedrooms, and four and a half bathrooms, and every room has a different view of the lake.

The house is also quite a subtle experience in many ways. Nimmo seamlessly wove a door into the design of each room, which is a critical element for privacy. If you’ve ever spent time in a lakehouse, you know that stumbling over others to get to the actual lake is the norm. With Nimmo’s design, no one has their space interrupted.

A dedicated billiards room with a built-in bar adds a refined layer of leisure.

What makes this modern Malakoff lakehouse even more inviting is the staging. You can truly appreciate how a home lives when it’s furnished. George Bass Stage & Design was tapped to bring the appropriate lifestyle look to this home and, as usual, brought the magic. And get this: you can negotiate for the furniture and the artwork!

“It’s a lakehouse that can easily be formal or informal,” George Bass said. “Comfort was number one for us. We chose fabrics and styles of furniture to honor the midcentury nod, and yet make it completely comfortable.”

One of the exceptional draws to this home is that the Old Mine Club, with an 18-hole championship course designed by Beau Welling, is a golf cart ride away.

The house has been pre-approved for a pool and private dock, singular or shared with a neighbor. Warner offers full concierge service and can make all that happen for you.
