If you’ve longed to own a Dilbeck home, we have an inside tip! Realtors are allowed to add their Charles Dilbeck listings to the Dilbeck Architecture Conservancy website. The site gives buyers and preservation fans a centralized place to track available Dilbeck properties. Currently, there are three Texas homes listed and one in Colorado.

Candy’s Favorite Dilbeck

The most significant and recognizable Dilbeck home for sale is in Westlake, Texas. The conservancy website put it beautifully:

What is longer than a football field, has nine chimneys, and a log room? This residence, designed for Edward M “Ted” and Clara Dealey as a retreat and completed in 1942, is considered the pinnacle of Dilbeck’s Southwestern Ranch style period. This spectacular home was originally only 260 feet long. It was cut into six pieces and moved from its original location, only a half mile away, to the current location on 18 acres at 1 Paigebrook Lane.

The move took ten years, and in the process, the home was expanded to 11,500 square feet, updated for modern living, and a basement and guest house were added. Candy wrote about this in detail in April.

Barbara Pantuso of Keller Williams Realty has 1 Paigebrooke in Westlake listed for $20 million.

Make a Midcentury Dilbeck Your Own

If that price tag is a bit out of your comfort zone, no worries! This 1955 home on Lawther may be the best deal in town. It’s been attributed to Dilbeck, but there is no paperwork to prove it. However, because the national authority on Dilbeck, Willis Winters, created a detailed catalog of characteristics, we have a lot to indicate that it is indeed a Dilbeck design. This is one of his many mid-century designs. Located on 1.12 acres facing White Rock Lake, it’s changed hands a few times and is currently back on the market. We hope a preservationist who loves the 1950’s Dilbeck style will see the magic here and at least conserve the fireplace.

Heath Blanchard of VIP Realty has 3505 W. Lawther Dr.  listed for $5.49 million.

If you think these historic homes are hard to move, consider the last Texas listing on the Dilbeck Architecture Conservancy site. It’s a duplex at 4409 and 4411 Normandy Avenue. It’s pending after less than two months on the market.

Al and Margaret Hunt Hill’s Dilbeck Summer Home

Now, if you are longing for a Dilbeck summer home, the conservancy site has you covered as well. However, this one does have a sizable Texas connection!

This Texas Modern Ranch was built in 1952 for Mr. Al and Mrs. Margaret Hunt Hill as a summer home in Kissing Camels, which has to be the best-named neighborhood in America. This house is also listed on the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties.

It features Dilbeck’s signature exterior and interior elements, including a trapezoidal chimney and a round stone column outside. Inside are the classic fireplace, wood paneling, and Dutch doors. The home is fully updated and modernized—check the listing photos.

Realtors recognize the impact of a listing on the Dilbeck Conservancy site because it’s become the first stop for Dilbeck lovers.

Sotheby’s International Realty agent Laura Cloth has 3440 Hill Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado, available for $2.2 million.
