Home tour season is here, and we’re kicking it off with one of our favorites: the White Rock Home Tour. This year, six homes are opening their doors to us, from a classic Ju-Nel to an A-Frame and a Far + Dang-designed home on San Leandro Drive.

The White Rock Home Tour began in 2006 as a way to fundraise for the Victor H. Hexter Elementary School PTA in Old Lake Highlands. The tour is known for highlighting Midcentury Modern and architect-designed homes.

This year’s tour features a Santa Fe-inspired contemporary residence designed in 2017 by Dallas-based architects Far + Dang for the builder’s own use. The home sits on a double lot just minutes from White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum. The understated exterior conceals a striking interior.

Built in a dramatic elevated position, the stepped landscaping features equally dramatic plant selections like Desert Spoon, Whale’s Tongue Agave, and Beaked Yucca. The home looks down on the main street from the wraparound porch, giving a tree-house effect in the massive great room.

“It’s a unique house in general, for the neighborhood, and for Dallas, built to this kind of scale,” said Realtor Josh Alexander with Randy White Real Estate Services.

The striking great room measures approximately 55 x 22 feet, expanding to nearly 75 x 22 feet with bi-parting glass doors that open to the outdoors. There are 17 hand-adzed Ponderosa Pine beams sourced from New Mexico, which define the ceiling. This process leaves visible, repetitive scallops on the wood surface, creating a unique, rustic aesthetic.

Brazilian hardwood was used on the flooring of the wraparound decks, porches, and a massive screened outdoor living area. The wraparound deck is especially impressive, and a walk-out basement with an approximately five-car garage is a rarity.

The Santa Fe inspiration continues outdoors with Texas Hill Country stone and mature trees, plenty of room for entertaining, and a hot tub for relaxing. This is a one-of-a-kind residence that blends architectural character, functionality, and lifestyle in a unique setting, and considering it’s pending, this may be your only chance to see it in person!
