Dearest Gentle Reader,

If you, like me, tingle with anticipation for each new season and episode of Netflix’s steamy romantic comedy, Bridgerton, you may be equally thrilled by the enchanting scenic design of the show. Keeping tabs on the exciting and luxurious goings on of the real estate of the ton as we do, you won’t be surprised to learn that there are any number of excellent estates right here that would more than suit Lady Whistledown and her set.

In honor of the most romantic day of the year, I consulted our archives for some of the best castles and estates of the ton in which to set a Bridgerton-style romance.

That Epic Dance Scene

Parsons Castle at 119 Private Road 1820, Clifton, Texas, sits on 2.3 acres of Lake Whitney coastline and was listed for 5.5 million in 2023. It was built for either living or as an event space and is currently running as a wedding venue. It’s easy to envision one of Bridgerton’s famous dance scenes with all the intricate choreography taking place in the grand ballroom here, but what about outdoors on the huge veranda under the enormous Texas sky? The Queen would surely swoon.

This historic Italianate estate is one of Dallas’ most significant residences. It was built in 1923 for Pickins Burton and was designed by one of the leading architects of the era, Englishman Bertram C. Hill. I cannot imagine a more perfect setting for the ladies of the ton to gather to discuss all the latest news from Lady Candy from the pages of CandysDirt.com.

This Italianate Renaissance villa was built by Bella Custom homes and designed by Lloyd Lumpkins. The result is a rare combination of quality and design that will make this a significant home for many years to come. One of the most stunning examples of this is the grand sweeping staircase at the entry of the home. It’s easy to imagine one of our lead characters having a grand entry “moment” on this staircase, all eyes on them in their finery as they make their way down the stairs, perfectly lit by the chandelier … sigh.

Chateau des Grotteaux is another of Dallas’ most significant homes, or more accurately castles, complete with a moat and a turret. Built in 1927, it was the original home of R.L. Thornton. This splendid estate makes our imaginary Bridgerton list as a “country home” and the probable scene of any number of romantic assignations for its beautiful rooms and hallways where one could duck in for a private moment with one’s beloved. (Aren’t they always meeting in the stairs?)

This 16,000+ square foot beauty was the very first home built, to much hoopla and acclaim, in The Creeks at Preston Hollow in 2008. And while there is so very much more to be admired about this remarkable estate — including the dual closet/dressing rooms in the massive primary suite which are Bridgerton-worthy in themselves — it is the lovely grounds with which we will focus ourselves. For no Bridgerton season would be complete without a good romantic walk — perhaps angsty chase? — through the grounds, and this stunning Italianate estate sets the mood nicely. You can almost hear the music swell.
