It’s not surprising that a smart developer named a Mansfield neighborhood Strawberry Fields and a street Penny Lane. The minute you hear those names, you start to hum the songs and smile.

You’ll do the same when you walk into this Penny Lane mansion. That’s because it’s a custom build by people who knew exactly what they wanted. They hired an experienced team, and guess what? They ended up with an absolute dream home.

Doug and Annette Thompson were clear on their design concepts and how they wanted their family home to function. They chose Architect Philip Contreras of Arkitektura Development, Inc. to realize those design ideas, and he exceeded their expectations.

Believe it or not, this magnificent Penny Lane mansion was brought to life in just 12 months. It’s a testament to the skill and efficiency of the builders, Jerry and Doug Johnston, who also created the Thompson’s amazing pool, which was featured on the HGTV series Cool Pools!

The 8,239-square-foot Penny Lane mansion sits on two large lots and features four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and two half bathrooms, making it a perfectly sized family home. The Thompsons had specific desires with this one. Annette wanted an impressive entry and interesting ceilings. Doug wanted a sports bar and entertainment area. And, of course, they both wanted a resort-style pool.

Magnificent arched iron doors open to that grand entry, and then you know you are in for something special, which was the idea all along. Sweeping staircases frame the living room and a gorgeous view of the patio and pool beyond.

As gracious and elegant as this home is, it’s definitely built for fun. The action begins in the family room with a dramatic barrel-vaulted brick-paver ceiling and a seamless flow to the kitchen at one end and the sports bar and game area at the other, offering views from every angle.

Look closely at the details in this home. In the bar, there is a highly amusing chandelier. Doug saw one at The Gaylord Texan Resort made from tequila bottles. He knew one made of beer bottles would be the perfect accent piece for the sports bar.  He also had the TCU Horned Frog logo in purple added to the media room sconces.

The Thermador kitchen is anchored by a striking custom copper vent hood, two dishwashers, and a butler’s pantry. It has open sightlines to the formal living area and double-sided fireplace.

Yes, this Penny Lane mansion has been party central.

“We have entertained a lot in this house,” Doug said. “We had all the big parties for the Super Bowl, New Year’s  Eve, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. When friends come over, they say they never want to leave because our home is really a sanctuary, and they love the backyard.”

The Thompsons visit the Caribbean often and wanted a pool that evoked that island vibe. It was designed with a heated spa and dramatic fire bowls, so it’s no wonder HGTV’s Cool Pools featured it.

It’s hard to leave your dream home, of course, but when the kids have relocated to the East Coast and you love deep-sea fishing, you need to be closer to water. So the Thompsons are on to their next chapter.
