See Inside Candy’s New Home’s … Sewer Pipes?

If you’ve been following the Downsizing Diaries or any of our intrepid publisher’s other stories over the last few months, then you probably already know that Candy is moving.

Before closing on her fabulous new home, Candy had a sewer scope test done as part of her due diligence. And naturally, Upon Closer Inspection was there to see what might be in the sewer pipes.

In all seriousness, we were there to get the dirt on this important test, learning firsthand how and why it’s done and what it can tell you. And we did, in fact, see what was in Candy’s sewer pipes. Now, you can too!

Why Do a Sewer Scope Test?

Inspector Brian is on a ladder at the flower beds outside Candy’s lovely home because that is where her sewer cleanouts are located. That’s all the inspector needs to access to do this test.

That’s One Long Camera!

As Inspector Brian fed the camera into the pipes, he described what he was doing and filmed the insides of the sewer line so Candy could see exactly what was going on in there.

In the next video, you can see where Brian ran into some trouble. Spoiler alert: It’s nothing gross, I promise.

So in this case they did catch some issues within the sewer line. It was not a complete blockage so the lines aren’t clogged at this point, but they probably will be eventually, so Inspector Brian recommended having a plumber flush the lines out now to prevent future problems.

The home had some renovations done over the past few months, including having the toilets replaced, so it’s likely dust and grime from construction got into the sewer lines during that time, and that’s the source of all that grit.
