Smartly Updated Oakhurst Cottage Proves the Enclave Continues to Appeal and Improve

I’ve been a fan of Oakhurst since 2017 when it was still not difficult to find one of its winsome cottages for 200K. Well that was then, this is now and Oakhurst is getting, well, fancy. That I predicted this doesn’t speak to my clairvoyance as all of the ingredients for price appreciation were in place for anyone to see. First and foremost was the inherent charm of the enclave platted in 1927 by Harvard-educated landscape designer Herbert Hare.

Add into the mix a proud neighborhood association, attractive parks, and close proximity to town and the Trinity Vision Project. Upscale development along Oakhurst Scenic Drive has also contributed to price appreciation to the area.

I have kept tabs on the neighborhood over the years and witnessed as pioneers have managed clever renovations that have enhanced the appeal of the vintage bungalows that dot the quaintly named streets of Oakhurst. Following that pattern are the current owners of 1904 Marigold Avenue a lovely three bedroom, three bath cottage. Over four years they have undertaken to replace the HVAC system, water heater, and plumbing. Both existing bathrooms were renovated while adding a permitted third full bath. Recent improvements within the last year include fresh exterior paint, new fencing and gates. The original oak floors throughout the 2133 square foot house are also a standout. The cozy living room features a wood burning fireplace.

The near floor to ceiling windows in this 1951 vintage home are a unique and attractive feature of the residence.

The galley kitchen has all of the mod cons including abundant storage and a new gas range. The wood ceiling is a singular feature. At the end, set into a cheerful bay, is the breakfast nook.

Among the three bedrooms are two of similar size making this abode primary suite flexible. Major kudos are due to the owners for the gorgeous bath. Heavenly hand painted Berlin blue tiles run from floor to ceiling , a more imaginative choice than the now standard subway tiles or big box marble options. The fixtures are spot on and the effect is ambiguously modern and vintage.

A fine terrace, hardscaped in brick, offers enjoyment of the mature trees, many preceding the platting of the neighborhood. At back is a studio finished out with climate control that has plumbing stubbed in with the possibilities of being a studio, future rental or mother-in-law quarters. In addition there are two covered parking spaces.

David Chicotsky of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International has priced 1904 Marigold Avenue at $485,000.00.
