You’ll Never Believe This Contemporary Compound in Oak Lawn!

Not many empty nesters would end up in a contemporary compound in the heart of Dallas, but Eddie and Lisa Lennox are far from typical. In case you didn’t know, Eddie built the phenomenal Service King empire, which merged with Crash Champions in 2022. That’s the year Lisa stumbled into the retro motel business. She and her siblings, Cathy and Kirk Bonner, formed Mod Motels to remodel and save historic mid-century roadside motels all around the country. Like I said, not your typical empty nesters.
After raising five kids in Rockwall, it was time for a change — and a big one at that.
“We thought it would be fun to move back to Dallas,” Lisa said. “We just started driving around!”
They found a lot in the sweetest spot, right between Oak Lawn and Turtle Creek.

The couple engaged interior designer Neal Stewart and Bernbaum/Magadini Architects to create their multi-level contemporary compound. The entire first floor was designed to function as a complete living space, independent of the rest of the house. Perfect for multi-generational living, Lisa’s sister Cathy even lived there for several years.
As opportunities arose, the couple acquired surrounding lots and green space. The estate now comprises seven lots spanning almost an acre, including a historic home located on the property’s corner. This is unheard of in the middle of Dallas, and yes, you can buy just the home or opt for the entire property.

The home took four years to build, and it’s as solid as it looks because it’s built with steel beams.
“It was quite the departure for us to have a contemporary home,” Lisa said. “Our Rockwall house was the typical big mini-mansion with faux finishes. We love every style of architecture, and since we travel frequently, we are exposed to a wide range of different styles. I was still a little blown away to have our main living quarters on the second floor, as I’d never lived in a high-rise, but Tricy Magadini helped me embrace the change.”

The 12,101-square-foot contemporary compound features six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and a powder bath, all of which are accessible via an elevator from the five-car underground garage to the third-floor outdoor kitchen and terrace. There’s also a state-of-the-art gym, an endless pool and water treadmill, a spa with a wet sauna, a golf simulator, and a private theater. Frankly, you have little reason to leave this contemporary compound except to walk over and grab a cocktail at the Mansion on Turtle Creek.
“I’ve loved this location,” Lisa said. “You are close to everything.”

Mature trees line the perimeter, and a large shade structure unfolds to cover the patio. So, despite being situated in the heart of a bustling neighborhood with numerous high-rises, this extraordinary contemporary compound offers a surprising level of privacy.

The property has served the couple well, as it is not only a fantastic space for large parties and fundraisers but also perfect for their expanding family. All five children have spouses, and of course, grandkids have come along.
“Just a family get-together is now at 21, so it’s a great home for our family events,” Lisa said.
At one point during the pandemic, Eddie and Lisa even trucked in their two donkeys, Johnny and Rosie, from their ranch to entertain the grandkids. I told you they were not typical folks, and now you have an opportunity to own this atypical residence in the heart of Dallas.
