Dallas City Council District 2 is the definition of eclectic. From the west end of the city to the east boundary of Dallas, incumbent candidate Jesse Moreno‘s District 2 has a variety of neighborhoods to win over for his third term at the May 3 election. Second-time candidate Sukhbir Kaur is back on the ballot to unseat Moreno. Two years ago, Moreno garnered 1,855 votes (84.86%) over Kaur’s 331 votes (15.14%).

As the district expands, issues related to housing affordability and infrastructure have come to the forefront. Deep Ellum, best known for its music and bustling nightlife, has also seen new development and population growth in recent years. This evolution has sparked conversations about preserving its cultural essence amidst growth.

Jesse Moreno: Protecting our current affordable housing and establishing an anti-displacement policy.
Sukhbir Kaur: Transparency and accountability of office of homeless solutions, city hall and all nonprofits connected with it. Higher Rents- Need property tax break for all Real property owners not just 1-2 developers.

Jesse Moreno: I do not support STRs in the middle of our neighborhoods.
Sukhbir Kaur: With stricter background checks and higher fees and enforcement measures.

Jesse Moreno: Yes, ForwardDallas 2.0 does not protect our most vulnerable neighborhoods.
Sukhbir Kaur: FD 2.0 can not be successful by displacing single family homes or causing scare among real property owners by panic selling or driving real property taxes up. Which also contributes to higher rents and higher housing costs in the Dallas Texas. It’s Fundraising for homeless services or solutions from city hall need transparency and accountability.

Jesse Moreno: We need higher recruiting goals that will result in hiring more police. We have rightfully identified and invested heavily in infrastructure through our 2024 Bond Program.
Sukhbir Kaur: Current council member voted to defund police. And also against pay raises or hiring more police officers. Public safety is a priority for businesses to thrive and commercial success. And Healthy Communities and neighborhood. Bring transparency and accountability to all city all construction and vendors projects.

Jesse Moreno: I have and will continue to vote the way that my community supports and wishes.
Sukhbir Kaur: It’s very important to me that city services are working efficiently. Especially emergency services like Police, Fire, Ambulance etc. I have made over 100 service calls for myself, my neighborhood businesses and visitors with 311 and other agencies. I have the integrity and honesty and courage to take action. And I keep myself aware of developments that might affect my community and neighborhood residents. I love children and look forward from their perspective. I work with all and continue to.
I am able to rise above party politics as I am registered independent voter, a single woman who supports herself. I was born in a Sikh family in Punjab India. And I legally immigrated to USA in 1999. My mother passed away in 2007 and my father lives with my eldest sister and her husband in California. I am youngest of 4 sisters and 1 brother. Peace and health and Law is important to me . I like music, travel, cultural awareness, history, taste different cuisine, explore, HGTV. I take inspiration from many different people, places, cultures especially Sikh Scriptures. And love to make a difference.
