A Kessler Highlands Home Even Your Dog Will Love

This week’s Highlight Home of the Week sponsored by Senior Loan Officer Lisa Peters of First Horizon is a wonderful 1925 home in the Kessler Highlands addition of Kessler Park.
Kessler Highlands is the second of ten developments that make up Kessler Park, developed between 1923 and 1979. The neighborhood, east of Kessler Square (the first to be developed), was filed on November 30, 1923, and contains Salmon Drive, Thomasson Drive, Stewart Drive, and Kidd Springs.
Our home at 1001 Turner Avenue sits on a beautiful corner lot at Stewart Drive in this charming historic neighborhood. Kessler Highlands is part of the conservation district, so the homes here are all wonderfully preserved like this one, and you see a variety of architecture of the time, from Craftsman to Tudor Revival and Colonial Revival.
A Grand Entry

I’m so glad that Realtor Bill Griffin of David Griffin & Company photographed the home in the evening to capture its grandeur when lit up from the street. It’s part of the magic of this style of home that it always looks like a ball or some grand event is happening inside when it’s lit up like that, doesn’t it? And yes, you read that right, Griffin does his own photography.

Inside, we can immediately begin to see the juxtaposition of the historic with the modern. The home was expertly remodeled in 2017 by architect James Ferrara, and the thoughtful updates are clear.
Old Meets New

In this lovely open living space. with French doors opening to a side-covered patio, you can see the effect of historic notes complementing modern additions. The freshly stained original hardwood flooring shines with light from new windows with smart shades for when you want a little less light or some privacy. Cozy up to the original fireplace and dim the programmable LED smart lighting to set just the right mood.
Let There Be Light

The kitchen has all the amenities a chef could want for cooking and entertaining in style, including oodles of storage space. Are you noticing that every room has beautiful views and so much light from huge windows? “Light just washes through the house,” Griffin said.

Upstairs, the bedrooms were reconfigured to create a more spacious primary suite, with a large bedroom and bath and extended closet more befitting modern expectations, and the result is a truly relaxing retreat. The other bedrooms are equally lovely: this one that’s being used as a nursery just feels like the perfect place for a growing family. “Every one of the bedrooms is awash with light,” Griffin said. “It’s almost a theme of the house.”

Outside, there’s a great deck that has about four feet of coverage, and a spacious yard with recent landscaping. The white structure on the right in the image is a newly constructed addition, currently being used for storage, that could be turned into a guest house or studio.

To my point that every view is a great view, this is looking from the living room to the backyard. I think our canine friend wanted to chime in and let us know what a great house this is.
