Any experienced home inspector will tell you that just when you think you’ve seen it all, something crazy will leap out of the crawl space and surprise you. But sometimes even a healthy sense of “expecting the unexpected” isn’t enough to prepare you for the surprises in store at an inspection.

Somebody’s Been Living in This Vacant House!
When we find evidence of a break-in or worse, squatters, it’s certainly surprising, and definitely changes the usual order of things. It’s an unfortunate situation for the property owners and the buyers. In a case like this one, we won’t proceed with an inspection until the authorities have been called and the owners can assess this situation.
Did We Just Enter The Upside Down?
If you had just finished watching the latest season of “Stranger Things,” and you encountered this in a crawl space, you might have a somewhat strong reaction too.
Speaking of Upside Down …
This one might take you a minute unless you read the heading. I’ll wait. Yes! These tiles have been laid upside down. That’s an awful lot of work to go through to not notice something so glaringly obvious.
