This Winnetka Heights Home Has All the Ingredients for a Great Place to Live

Few and far between are the truly close-knit neighborhoods. Sure, they may call themselves that, but would you go the extra mile for your neighbor like the neighbors of this Winnetka Heights home?

“During lockdown, the neighbors rallied to help a fellow neighbor source all the ingredients needed for her daughter’s birthday cake,” said Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate‘s Laura Wiswall. “You don’t just wave ‘Hi’ here — you’re part of something larger and more meaningful.”

That’s a big part of the attraction for this Winnetka Heights home, but it’s not the only reason people are drawn to this Oak Cliff historic district.

“It is a short drive to downtown, but friendly, welcoming, and neighborhood-y,” Wiswall said. “This Winnetka Heights home sits on a tree-lined street that has won ‘best block’ in the neighborhood many years.”

If Wiswall had you at “tree-lined street” and “neighborhood-y,” then you’re going to fall for this week’s  Highlight Home of The Week sponsored by Senior Loan Officer Lisa Peters of First Horizon.

“It’s walkable to TYPO and Bishop Arts, which have a distinct eclectic feeling amongst Dallas’ many shopping and entertainment districts,” Wiswall added. “Living so close means you don’t have to deal with parking in an area that’s more and more popular and it also means getting to know the restaurateurs and shop owners if you choose to do so. You’re a local, not a visitor, and that’s a beautiful thing.”

I know I’m ready to move in, but there’s more to this Winnetka Heights home than the neighbors and location. Among historic homes, this property stands out for a very good reason.

“Storage is often sacrificed in historic homes, but this home has it in abundance,” Wiswall said. “Every closet has built-in shelving and there is a dedicated butler’s pantry for all of your small appliances.”

Smart storage solutions extend throughout this Winnetka Heights home, and the laundry room is no slouch. Great built-in custom cabinetry makes for easy organization, but again, there’s more to this space.

“There’s even a coffee bar that opens up to shelves above, and a pull-out coffee maker shelf for all of your morning brew needs,” Wiswall said. “Every inch of space has a purpose, and no space was wasted.”

While the laundry room is definitely a star, Wiswall’s favorite room is the kitchen. Three large windows light up the space, offering a balance to the moody dark green paint on the custom cabinetry.

“There is so much storage, an expansive Carrara countertop, and a honed Carrara sink — it makes even a non-cook like myself want to get in there and create something,” Wiswall said. “Every finish is intentionally chosen and very beautiful down to the solid brass hardware sourced from England.”

The kitchen features commercial-grade appliances, a pot filler, and did we mention the honed Carrara sink? What a detail!

Just saying all the amazing upgrades aloud has me wondering why the owners would want to part with this three-bedroom, three-bath, 2,101-square-foot home. The sellers have lived in this beautiful Winnetka Heights home for a decade, but it was time to let go.

“One of the homeowners, Bill, was the designer of all of the finishes and updates. He is just a regular guy — quiet, sarcastic, and has been a nurse serving others for decades, but with a close eye for design,” Wiswall said. “He built over many years a curated vision that he then applied to this home. It’s incredible, beautiful, functional, and so thoughtfully executed.”

It was so well done that Wiswall initially thought that the home was designed by a professional. While the aesthetics of this Winnetka Height home are fantastic, it’s more than just a pretty face.

Wiswall says that everything meticulously updated, including a new roof, HVAC, refinished original hardwood floors, gas fireplace, storm windows, plumbing, electrical, insulation, and fresh paint inside and out. The bathrooms have been updated, and the closets are pristine.

“Not one inch of this home has been neglected, and it is ready for a new buyer to come in and seamlessly integrate into this incredibly welcoming block and neighborhood,” Wiswall said. “It’s very hard to find a home with character and function in such a great part of Dallas, and this one really and truly has it all.”

Just make sure you keep a cup of sugar on hand in case someone needs to make a birthday cake.

Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate‘s Laura Wiswall has 207 S. Willomet St. in historic Winnetka Heights listed for $800,000.

This home has an older charm but is quite modern. I am aware this house will be out of my price range, but I can adore it from a distance.
