This Retreat at The Beat Has The Best Views in Dallas

The Beat Lofts

The Cedars has become one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Dallas. This is thanks, in very large part, to developer and investor Jack Matthews, owner of Matthews Southwest and the man who built The Beat.

Matthews has been the driving force in rebuilding the Cedars. He turned the old Sears warehouse into Southside on Lamar, the first hip lofts on this side of Interstate 30.

Security was critical, so he built The Dallas Police Department across the street from them.

Then, when all of these new residents needed places to hang out, he went on to develop Gilleys, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and countless other projects you most likely frequent.

But The Beat Stands Out

The first time I saw The Beat was visiting Briggs Freeman Realtor J.B. Hayes, who had just purchased her loft there in 2017. I remember walking in the door and doing the proverbial jaw-drop. Take it from someone who sees beautiful real estate daily: There are no better views in Dallas.

So, when she called me last week to let me know that one of the largest residences at The Beat Lofts was for sale, I could not stop hitting refresh on the computer as I eagerly awaited the photos.

Watch your favorite game from the 200-inch drop-down screen that can be paired with your television.

Penthouse 4, an exclusive three-bedroom end unit, crowns the southern section of the building, offering unparalleled views of downtown Dallas, Fair Park, and the Trinity River corridor. This means you’ll be surrounded by 14-foot-tall, floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides of the loft.

For those who appreciate a dramatic reveal, electric shades in the living and dining areas allow you to showcase the breathtaking view at the perfect moment.

Lofts, by nature, have exposed pipes, ductwork, and concrete pillars. While the views obviously make this one unique, so do the hardwood floors. They were repurposed from a gymnasium basketball court and provide the perfect contrast to the industrial aesthetic.

The gourmet kitchen is at the center of the loft with an oversized waterfall quartzite island. One of the best things about entertaining in this loft is the open-plan allows enough room to host a seated dinner for up to 60 guests.

You know, once you purchase this loft in The Beat, you will be hosting New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July because there’s no better location in Dallas for fireworks. You may not be able to get all 60 guests on the balcony but they will be in for a real treat inside or out.

Top-of-the-line appliances include a pro-series, six-burner, dual-fuel Viking range with convection oven, an extendable-arm pot filler, a custom vented hood with extended aluminum stack, and a KitchenAid French-door refrigerator.

You Can’t Beat The Beat

While this loft penthouse in The Beat has had only one owner, it has a rich history. In 2011, It was featured in the sequel of the iconic television series Dallas. For years, Matthews also kept the penthouses reserved for visiting celebrities and, of course, for family parties.

In addition to unparalleled views and a fantastic residence, The Beat Lofts amenities include a pool with a heated spa, two community grills, a fire pit, and a covered seating area on the second-level deck, along with a small dog run on the first level, next to the garage. There is also a private neighborhood dog park adjacent to the property.

The en-suite bath includes a deep soaking tub and a separate, oversized shower with dual shower heads and multiple body sprays.

Jack Matthews Stays Busy

What truly seals the deal for me is the fact that Matthews is far from finished.

The Dallas City Council recently awarded him the contract to rebuild the Kay Bailey Hutchins convention center at 650 S. Griffin Street. The ambitious plans include a deck park over Interstate 30 that will connect The Cedars with the convention center and downtown.

There are also plans for an entertainment district with hotels and restaurants. This future development will undoubtedly enhance the value of The Beat Lofts.

The Beat Penthouse 4 at 1001 Belleview Street, PH4, places you at the epicenter of urban life. This is an opportunity unlikely to come along again any time soon.  Hays has the penthouse listed for $1.2 million.
