The Joule announced the debut of its reimagined ballroom level, transformed by award-winning designer Adam D. Tihany. The invigorated 10,200-square-foot flexible indoor event space further positions The Joule as Dallas’s ideal location for corporate meetings, special events, galas, and weddings.

“Since its opening in 2008, The Joule has established itself as the premier and marvelously unique destination in the heart of downtown Dallas,” says Michael Tregoning, president of Headington Companies. “Through further investment in the property, Tim Headington is once again exhibiting his commitment to the long-term success of downtown and the Main Street district. Tim is thrilled to have created an exciting, vibrant, and design-driven community with The Joule at its heart. As we further evolve The Joule and its Main Street neighborhood, we expect the hotel and each of its operating elements to be an even more powerful magnet for locals, and visitors of all types, art lovers and admirers of the uncommon.”

Accessible via a private glass elevator on Main Street, the ballroom level located on the hotel’s second floor boasts three distinct meeting rooms, a pre-function area, and three ballrooms, including:

  • Mosaic Ballroom: 3,400-square-foot space with modern airwalls that allow for custom configurations for up to 300 guests. Perfect for wedding receptions, general sessions, or large events.

  • Fortnight Ballroom: Nearly 3,400 square feet of historical columns, wall sconces, grand chandeliers, and floor-to-ceiling views of downtown Dallas. Perfect for corporate meetings, formal dinners, and weddings with up to 250 guests.

  • Praetorian Ballroom: 1,680-square-foot space that can be divided into two rooms and accommodate up to 120, but also connects to the Mosaic Ballroom and Ballroom Foyer for larger events. Perfect for wedding receptions, catering events, and team workshops.

  • Pegasus Salon: Divisible room totaling 772 square feet with views of downtown Dallas and The Eye with space for up to 50 guests. Perfect for meetings, an event lounge, and training sessions.

  • Dallas National: 471-square-foot boardroom meeting space that can accommodate up to 22 guests and features city views. Perfect for breakout meetings, client presentations, and board meetings.

  • Scholar Salon: 471-square-foot boardroom meeting space that can accommodate up to 22 guests. Perfect for hospitality suites, green rooms, and small gatherings.

The new palette is soft and neutral with accents of navy and sage, shifting from the previous design marked by stronger color fabrics and dark woods. Custom carpet featuring circular motifs is in perfect balance with tailored upscale wall coverings that offer a stunning canvas for original artwork. The corridors, featuring floor-to-ceiling views of downtown, are upgraded with an iridescent wall covering that is intercepted by handmade cork wallpaper in the pre-function, while the ballroom is adorned with a luminous fabric.

Beyond the custom-designed chandeliers and furnishings that have been artfully curated throughout the space to complement the contemporary design, the spaces offer new, innovative culinary offerings. Inspired by celebrity green rooms, the “Build Your Own Rider Requirement” allows guests to satisfy their sweet tooth with a candy bar, custom trail mix table and more. Other culinary packages include reception-style food stations that include everything from traditional carving stations to a build-your-own poke bar. The ballroom level now also has a custom coffee cart engineered and designed to serve actual coffee/espresso beverages from in-house and local-favorite shop, Weekend Coffee, and a satellite bar of The Joule’s award-winning cocktail bar, Midnight Rambler.

In addition to blue-chip art throughout meeting rooms and function areas, the ballroom level prominently features large-scale mosaics by artist Millard Sheets that were originally commissioned in the 1940s for downtown’s former Mercantile Building but were salvaged from near demolition by hotel proprietor Tim Headington. The intricate designs, made of glass tiles from Murano, Italy, required the painstaking attention of Michael van Enter, a South African conservator based in Dallas, to bring these midcentury works to life inside The Joule.

Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Dallas, The Joule is a cultural hub, dining, and retail destination — all wrapped in a luxury boutique hotel. With more than 30,000 square feet of customizable indoor and outdoor space, the hotel’s spaces are as functional as they are fashionable. In addition to the second-floor ballroom, The Joule is home to a rooftop Terrace, featuring a covered glass pavilion, as well as several penthouse suites, presenting spaces that feel rightfully residential for social events.

The Joule is also home to the most iconic outdoor artwork in the city — Eye (2012). The turfed lawn surrounding Tony Tasset’s 30-foot-tall, fiberglass sculpture is located across the street, making it easily accessible to the hotel’s clients as an entertainment venue. The Joule’s highly-skilled team of meeting and event professionals and award-winning culinary team offer premium services, including personalized menu and cocktail planning. Technical offerings include seamless integration of computer, video, and audio equipment, a state-of-the-art A/V system with dual retractable projectors, screens, and touch-screen controls, along with onsite IT support.

Tihany Design has worked with The Joule since its inception, designing the hotel when it opened in 2008 and its expansion in 2014, and continues to work with the property to develop refreshed new experiences for guests. Outside of The Joule, some recent projects from Tihany Design include the Seabourn Venture and Seabourn Pursuit from Seabourn Luxury Cruise Line, a complete redesign of Daniel by Daniel Boulud in New York City, Bouchon Bistro by Thomas Keller in Miami, and Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bosphorus, Istanbul, Turkey which was awarded the Best Design Hotel on a Global Level by the Haute Grandeur Excellence Awards (2022). Other accolades the award-winning design firm has received include the Outstanding Contribution Award from the AHEAD Americas Awards (2022), designer Alessia Genova was named one of 12 People to Watch by Conde Nast Traveller UK (2022), Hospitality Honoree from InteriorDesign.net’s Firm Leader Awards (2020), and Best Hotel and Best Urban Newbuild from AHEAD MEA Awards (2017).
