Inside, enjoy all of the preserved details such as the millwork. The owners have found a near-perfect balance between preservation and renovation. Beamed ceilings are enhanced by the pattern of tin tiles. I can’t determine if the floors are a replacement, but they look new though the white oak is a timeless classic. The “Where in the living room should we put the TV?” question here finds a curious answer.

Again, I’m not certain if the dining room ceiling coffering is an add-on, but it’s a becoming architectural element that complements the period wainscoting and handsome door frames.

There is no better example of threading old versus new needles than the small, charming kitchen. Stainless steel appliances have been inserted into attractive green-painted cabinets with glazed uppers. I had the dual-fuel double oven and loved it and found the small side oven very useful. The primary suite has been remodeled with the upgrade of a chic little bathroom and added closet space. The slender gray subway tile creates a subtle but elegant harmony with the brushed brass fittings and mirror.

The second bath has been updated with an eye to vintage details like the black-and-white floor tile, claw-footed tub, and pedestal sink.

Additional improvements include a tankless water heater and an eight-foot privacy fence. The house is priced at about $40 below the Fairmount average and the attic has the potential to add more square footage and value as so many homeowners in the area have done. There is, however, no covered parking.
