Find The Best of Westover Hills on Shady Oaks Lane

Shady Oaks Lane

This was one of those weeks in which I went through all 80 pages of a real estate site (over 500 listings) without finding anything inspiring. Not counting a Westcliff modern which was irresistible until I succumbed to a severe bout of déja vu and realized I had written about it four years ago.

By the way, it looks better than ever.

Different sites, different results. Trust Martha Williams to land one of the most appealing listings in Westover Hills — a French-inspired relative new build (1971) that has been cared for and thoughtfully remodeled on Shady Oaks Lane.

The exterior, while not symmetrical, is balanced with three dormer windows at the center that break through a modified, slate mansard roof. The dignified construction is well sited on a three-quarter acre lot.

Inside, the ambiance is more relaxed than the formal exterior would have you imagine. Elegant but low-key, the five-bedroom, five-and-one-half-bath house has more than 5,100 square feet of living space over three levels. Coffee-colored oak floors are a unifying feature of the downstairs. A library is located to the left of the entry with a dining room at the right.

The living room benefits from beautiful back garden views through a bank of windows. Additionally, it has one of the two fireplaces in the house.

As would be expected in a residence of this caliber, the kitchen appliances are top of the line, including a six-burner gas cooktop, two in-cabinet ovens, and a built-in microwave. The kitchen island has a Carrara marble countertop, which goes nicely with the muted gray cabinetry and contemporary lighting.

The principal bedroom is on the ground level and has the second fireplace in the home. The attached bath is pristine with white marble surfaces. It features dual sinks, a large soaker tub, a separate shower stall, and his-and-hers closets.

The remaining four bedrooms are on the second floor, each with its own bath.

Level three has a large media room with plenty of storage for your media and games.

The back garden features a pool with a cabana and shower and a large lush, rolling green space. The garage has space for three cars.
