In Arlington, a local developer is looking for that sweet spot of recent college graduates, young families, and empty-nesters who are looking to move to urban areas but not quite interested in apartment living.
Arlington-based ECM Development is calling Echelon Downtown Arlington, a high-density housing community that will feature 65 two- and three-bedroom rental homes with rear entry-attached two-car garages, a first-of-its-kind neighborhood for Arlington.
In the words of ECM Development: “Residents will enjoy a beautiful public park and walkable proximity to the restaurants and entertainment offered in the downtown area.”
The development would be within walking distance to the University of Texas at Arlington campus and the downtown district.
It’s on the site of a drive-thru bank, which would be handy for the young residents. It’s also adjacent to the Arlington Cemetery, which would be creepy for empty-nesters.
The Arlington City Council approved ECM Development’s zoning request that would open the property to residential development. The council will add stipulations for off-road parking for residents and guests and establishing a homeowners association before further action.

Nikki and TJ Moore, ECM Development partners who are both UTA graduates and born and raised in Arlington, said homes would be spaced three feet from one another and include private yards and a private dog park, the Star-Telegram reported.
TJ Moore told the Arlington City Council that homes would be rented out at the market rate, which could run about $2,500 by the times are ready for lease.
ECM Development portfolio includes projects in Arlington, Bedford, Denton, Euless, and Dallas (Echelon at Reverchon Bluffs in the Bishop Arts District). In 2022, ECM plans to build Eden Town Square, which will be 67 units of detached single-family homes in Bedford in 2022, and Eden Springs, a 106-home project in south Arlington.
HI mMy name is Tracey. I read the article about the homes being built near UTA. I think it is a great idea. It may encourage other builders to build in the area. It would definitely be am improvement in the area. I love the idea. I haveived in my duplex for 17 going on 18byears. I became disabled after working for Department of Human Services for about 5 years. I had to apply for Assistance from Arlington Housing Authority to help me afford to live in a nicer community. I wanted my son who was a teenager at the time we moved in too see people of all races, cultures, & socio-economic backgrounds living their lives..It was important to me as a single parent too raise my son in a culturally diverse neighborhood. I can’t stress that one point enough. In today’s society, minorities are experiencing discrimination across the board educationallly, professionally, socio-economically, instutionally& medically. We need communities that better represent Human beings in America trying to live good lives. I went to school in Oklahoma. I graduated from LangstonUniversity with my BS in Corrections/ emph. Crim.Justice.I graduated from “The University of Oklahoma with a Masters degree in Human Relations w/ emph. Counseling. I moved to Texas with my son in 1995 in the hopes of being able to provide a better life for my son. I also wanted to get myself in position to become marketable professionally. I ended up getting hurt on my job which caused me too be totally disabled. If someone would of told me that my life was going to end up like this, I would have had to do everything under the sun to tell them how wrong they were including a fist fight if deemed necessary.
When people struggle in their lives to become better human beings, they deserve a hand up.The homes look very very nice. I am currently trusting the Lord to open my own foster home to take care of children who have been abused, pregnant teens and college students who havevtimed out of foster care and have no place too go.I pray that this housing community will flourish and help those you intend too serve.I was looking at the pictures imagining myself in a better place someday. Strong communities built on a solid foundation make for a better society.
I love the idea of more development in Arlington. More housing near UTA can only help with this crazy housing market.
