9918 Avalon Creek Court

Walking into last week’s Avalon Creek Court open house was a déjà vu kind of moment. It might be that it’s a reminder of summers in Colorado. (There’s definitely a Rocky Mountain vibe.) Or did two months of sheltering-in-place make us forget just how much we missed walking through a truly spectacular home?

My guess is, it’s a little of both. Either way, this one is a must-see. We guarantee you’ll forget you’re in Dallas during a pandemic and want to move in. Immediately.

The good news is, Compass listing agents Mark Cain and Taylor Cousins will be happy to sell it to you. Whoever ultimately buys this extraordinary, light-filled manse — designed by Richard Drummond Davis and built by Stephenson Custom Builders — is one immensely fortunate homeowner.

Day or night, the view from the street is exceptional.

The drive-up appeal is off the charts. One of just five homes in a private cul-de-sac, it’s situated on one of Dallas’ most scenic lots. The estate is also fully gated — a rare feature in Preston Hollow. An amply-sized motor court provides plenty of extra parking or room for a valet. There’s also a four-car garage.

More excitement awaits through the glass double-front door.

Turn left. We dare you not to say “wow.” The view will stop you in your tracks.

The adventure begins the minute you walk in the front door.

The first thing you see is the two-story great room. Abundant with natural light, it features soaring cathedral ceilings, floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and an inlaid wood floor with diamond detailing.

Massive glass doors fold flush into the walls, unveiling the exquisitely-landscaped backyard (the handiwork of Harold Leidner). Resort-like amenities include a sparkling pool and spa; large, grassy lawn; meandering creek; winding pathways; and stunning vista of dense trees.

“It’s literally a tapestry of forestry,” says Cain.

Three covered patios, stone fireplace, and outdoor kitchen add to the allure. Cypress trees provide an extra touch of luxe. And then, the pièce de résistance: the spectacular, unobstructed, nature-on-steroids view.

When — or should we say, if — you’re ready, step back inside: 9,929 square feet of indulgent living space awaits.

“The house is sophisticated, yet cozy.”

“It’s impressive, but incredibly livable,” says Cain. “All living and entertaining areas are on the first level, where you’d actually use them.”

Along with the great room, there’s a den, media room, and game room. A wood-paneled library/office/study sports backyard views. And the formal dining room features a marble fireplace and exquisitely-hued Venetian plaster walls. (We also love the uber-cool gold ceiling and lighting fixture.)

Cain calls the kitchen a “knock-out” — think stainless Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, oversized island, granite counters, wood floors, and double everything (ovens, farms sinks, dishwashers). Directly adjacent is a cheerful breakfast room. There’s also a butler’s pantry, bar area, and temperature-controlled wine cellar that holds up to 1,000 bottles.

Take the stairs or Otis elevator up to the second level. The large master bedroom features high ceilings, wood floors, fireplace, and morning bar. Doors open up to a balcony overlooking the pool and grounds.

According to Cain, the sumptuous master bath recently received a $157,000 remodel. Updates include a showpiece tub, see-through fireplace, dual vanities, tiling, and elegant marble flooring. A huge, covet-worthy closet features a marble island, beautiful built-ins, and crystal chandelier. The upstairs also houses a fitness area, laundry room, three bedrooms, and play area.

New owners will also appreciate up-to-the-minute technology including the property’s state-of-the-art Crestron home system. Among the functions that can be controlled from a smart phone: Lutron lighting, music, pool, HVAC, and a security system providing audio/visual surveillance.

“This home is a rare and special find in the heart of Preston Hollow,” says Cain. “And extremely well-priced for the over-the-top quality of the house.”

The five-bedroom, six-full-plus-two-half-bathroom estate located at 9918 Avalon Creek Court is listed for $4.695 million through Compass agents Mark Cain and Taylor Cousins. Lot size is .6 acres.
