Wyly Estate on Deloache Sells to NBA Legend For $5M And Change

Dirk Nowitzki has bought the Charles Wyly mansion at 5906 Deloache in the “Honeypot” of Preston Hollow.

While the estate was once listed for $8.25 million, pricing got way more realistic last year when Allie Beth Allman took it over. She was appointed by federal courts back in 2018 to dissolve the property to pay off Wyly’s creditors. The Wyly brothers — Charles and Sam (who had an epic home on Beverly Drive that was built in 1924 for Dallas businessman Fred Schoellkopf) were found guilty in 2014 of using Isle of Man off-shore accounts and trading to avoid paying taxes. The grand total bill between the Wylys? $1.1 billion.

The property was listed at $5,999,950. Sale proceeds to satisfy the family’s debt to the U.S. government. So thanks, Dirk!

Sources say Nowitzki picked up the estate for $5,375,000.

As we know, Nowitzki (said to be worth $140 million himself) retired this year after a legendary 21-season career with Mark Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks.

He has even had a street named after him in Dallas.

Nowitzki and his wife currently own a lovely home on Strait Lane, with interesting neighbors: Margot Perot and Brint Ryan, among others. I even wondered if they bought the home because of storm damage at the Strait Lane home, but as they closed October 22, that’s not likely.

This is an amazing deal for the Nowitzkis. They are getting 2.536 gated acres and an 11,394-square-foot main house with four en-suite bedrooms, two of them being master suites. There are five full baths and three half baths. There are five living spaces, including a beautiful glassed-in pavilion used by Dee Wyly for large-scale entertaining. There is a commercial kitchen, butler’s pantry, of course, indoor lap pool, exterior pool, tennis court, guest house, and a five-car garage.

A little renovation, yes — one of the upstairs rooms is ready — but really not too much work given the classical bones of this home, which was built in 1939. The roof is made of slate. The grounds are to die for. And the location? Well, let’s just say Dirk is pretty close to Mark Cuban’s land over there on Northwest Highway. And he is a brisk walk from Cuban’s house on the other side of the Dallas North Tollway, also Deloache.

The current Nowitzki home on Strait Lane, valued at about $6.5 million, is on just 1.99 acres and comes in at 9,843 square feet. We imagine that will be going on the market soon.

Yes, that is Gracie wallpaper on the dining room walls.

Maybe the Nowitzkis will keep it?
