Devonshire

Our Splurge: 5630 Stanford Avenue, Dallas listed by Sam Sawyer of Compass for $1.649 million.

Dreaming of Devonshire? Yeah, us too. Tucked away in a lush little corner of North Dallas, Devonshire draws buyers who want to shop and dine on Lovers Lane, hit the Arts District downtown, or take a quick drive over to Preston Center for a bite to eat with friends.

Bordered by Lovers Lane, Northwest Highway, Inwood Road, and the Dallas North Tollway, many of the streets in Devonshire share the same names with those you’ll find in University Park. Think Stanford Avenue, Caruth Boulevard, West Amherst, and Greenbrier Drive. These tree-lined streets are filled with block after block of charming cottages, fabulous remodels, and newly built custom homes that will have you at hello.

This week, we found two exceptional offerings on two of Devonshire’s most iconic streets, each with a prime location and stunning interiors, but with price points that are miles apart. One look at these beauties and we think you’ll agree, there’s a lot to love about Devonshire.

Splurge: Stanford Avenue Stunner With A Pool For $1.649M

This may not be the most expensive house in Devonshire, but it sure looks it! With an easy breezy, four-bedroom, four-full-and-one-half-bathroom floor plan, light and bright interiors, and an outdoor oasis we can’t take our eyes off of, this Devonshire newer build really is a dream!

We love the outdoor entertaining area with wood-burning fireplace, built-in gas grill, anda sparkling pool. Plus there’s room behind the garage to park two additional vehicles behind an automatic gate.

Inside you’ll find coffered-and-beamed ceilings, beautiful built-ins, glossy hardwood floors, and a master suite to make your jaw drop.

If this was your master would you ever leave? We adore the spa-like bath with freestanding tub and separate glass shower, and the grass-cloth accent behind the bed is an elegant touch.

And that kitchen! It’s a show-stopper. With built-in stainless steel appliances, sleek marble countertops, and an all-white color palette anchored by an expansive center island with a warm wood base, what’s not to love?

Whether you are cozied up by the fireplace in the great room, or outside on the covered patio with a glass of wine, this home has it all! Did we mention the wet bar off the main living area with wine fridge? How about the upstairs media room with projector and full-size utility room? The wins keep on coming in this Devonshire dream.

Steal: West Amherst Cottage With All The Upgrades For $819K

Now for half the price of our splurge, you could find yourself living in a beautifully updated cottage on West Amherst Avenue. In fact, it appeared in our Open House Round Up back in 2017, but has since undergone some sweet changes – and I mean sweet as in epic, not the saccharine kind.

Have your own before-and-after sesh and you’ll see what a difference a few designer upgrades can make! Hint, scroll to the bottom of the 2017 post to find the “befores” on this cottage charmer.

This two-bedroom, two-full-bathroom home hit the market with picture-perfect curb appeal, and a designer-decorated interior that just begs for a buyer who loves to entertain.

The open, airy living and dining area affords ample seating, marked by a vaulted ceiling and corner fireplace. The kitchen is no slouch either, and offers a center island and updated appliances that are ideal for any home chef!

For the ultimate retreat, head to the master suite, tucked away for privacy.

It’s a tranquil gem with spa-like marble bath, walk-in closet, and impressive views of the lush backyard. What’s even better is that there is a guest wing with its own comfy bedroom and update bath.

A lovely home office, two-car garage, and low-maintenance lawn with deck for entertaining round out this Devonshire steal. Let’s not forget, living here also means you can walk to all the shops and restaurants at Inwood Village for a relaxing meal or movie.

Christy Berry with Compass has listed 5630 W. Amherst Avenue, Dallas, for $819,000.

Is it odd that our Splurge vs. Steal picks of the week both start with 5630 in the address? Or the fact that both are listed by Compass agents? Total coincidence! Which one would you choose? The Stanford Avenue Splurge or the Amherst Cottage Steal? We would love to hear in the comments.

I’ll take the steal (if only!). I hope that gas range in the kitchen island has a downdraft vent, though.

Both of these are great in their own ways, but I understand why things in general are not selling at current asking prices.
