Before and After: Lake Highlands Home Gets New Life from Renovation

There’s something so satisfying about a big house renovation with before-and-after photos, and we’ve found on in Lake Highlands’ L Streets. The flippers took a dated house and worked some magic to create a home with an open floorplan and clean look.

Our Thursday Three Hundred is at 9659 Leaside Dr., near Walnut Hill Lane and Plano Road.

“The vision behind this house was to open up the walls — we love open floorplans — and we completely updated everything we touched,” said Kenneth Huggins, a Realtor with Skyline Realty who also mentors families on how to flip houses, including this one, through the family-owned Huggins Family Real Estate. “The L streets are very popular in Lake Highlands and we wanted to create something to be completely up to date [here].”

This home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two dining areas, a sunroom, and 2,312 square feet on one story, built in 1959. Jump to see some of the pre-renovation photos!

Before this property was bought by Christopher Haney in 2017, it was a one-owner home for 52 years. As you can see from the before photos above, the interior was begging to be transformed.

And transformed it was, from new hardwood floors and a custom two-sided stacked-stone fireplace to foundation repairs and a new HVAC. Taking out multiple walls in the common areas has created a great flow from the front living area to the dining area and kitchen, with a natural sense of division from the fireplace.

The kitchen gets a gold star for its on-trend features and functional layout. You’ll find a two-sided island, granite countertops, white Shaker-style cabinets, gas cooktop, and contemporary hanging vent. Recessed lights run throughout.

The master bedroom has new carpeting and the ensuite bathroom was expanded.

“We made that bathroom a little larger than it was before and opened it up to make it a master suite paradise,” said Huggins.

The new bathroom features large-format tile, a frameless glass shower with custom tile treatment, and a vanity with dual sinks. The secondary bathroom has a similar feel, also with a dual vanity and updated everything.

In back, there is a new electrical gate, as well as a wood privacy fence and lots of grassy green space.

This home was listed June 29 for $380,000.
