A Highland Park Masterpiece by Mark Molthan

Mark Molthan

Sigh. Y’all know we are house crazy here at CandysDirt.com. But, when this Highland Park masterpiece by Mark Molthan hit our inbox, well, we just sort of melted into one big puddle of longing. It has everything we love, all rolled into 6,661 square feet of fabulous in a perfect location at 3836 Caruth Boulevard.

You may think we have an easy job writing about gorgeous homes every day. Nope. There are plenty of dowdy, dull, dreary, outdated multi-million dollar mansions in the Metroplex that are not staged and are poorly photographed. It’s not as easy as you think. So when we found this not-so-little slice of heaven from  Platinum Series Homes by Mark Molthan, it set our hearts on fire.

Let’s get started.

Who?

We’re always cognizant of the thousands of new people streaming into our fair city daily and realize they may not know the low down on builders. Mark Molthan is a luxury home builder that has been recognized as one of Dallas’ best builders since 2006. His Platinum Home Team is among the top 2 percent of home builders in North Texas. If you can snag a home they’ve built, you’re a lucky buyer indeed.

What?

It’s a given that a custom luxury home will be, well, luxurious. What makes this three-story, five-bedroom, five-bathroom, two-half-bath transitional mansion stand out? Incomparable craftsmanship, and dedicated attention to detail.

Expect the unexpected.

We expect a grand entry, but this one will take your breath away. A Bianco Levantina marble staircase sweeps you up to the second floor. We’re glad the owners placed a bench at the bottom of the stairs because you’ll need to sit down and drink this in. Don’t worry there’s also a gorgeous elevator if you’re in a hurry to reach the top floor.

Perched just under the staircase is one of the loveliest powder baths you’ve ever seen. In fact, all of the bathrooms in this home have an extra special touch from the beautiful wallpapers — Quadrille lavender wallpaper, grass cloth, and an amusing birch tree paper — to decorative molding used on a vanity wall, and the pièce de résistance, that marble tub in the master bath! It’s a stunner.

What we expect in luxury kitchens is plenty of room for entertaining, and a Sub Zero/Wolf appliance package. What we don’t expect are an unusual zinc kitchen hood and a 700-bottle wine cellar. Molthan excels at exceeding expectations, but what is most interesting is what a builder loves about the homes they build. We asked Molthan what he was particularly pleased with on this project.

“The uniqueness of the oversized outdoor living area, the 12-foot interior ceilings, and the 11-foot steel windows make this home an exceptional transitional product.”

Outdoor living spaces have become an essential feature of luxury homes today. Everyone wants that additional casual entertaining space, but it has to be as tricked out as the kitchen and as comfortable as the family room. This one has all you could hope for with the necessary Phantom Screens to keep the mosquitos at bay.

Where?

There are a lot of lovely places to live in Dallas. However, when you’re looking for a great home, in a neighborhood with award-winning schools, that’s tight knit, walkable, safe, close to downtown, and minutes from the tollway, you cannot beat Highland Park. You also cannot beat this house.

Why?

Why not?

Katie Schortman with Howell Holland has the home listed for $4.125 million, and she’s as enamored of it as we are. We’re always interested in what the Realtor has to say about a listing because beautiful homes are something they see on a daily basis.

“It’s stunning, excellent for entertaining, and a wonderful family home,” Schortman said. “Mark Molthan is a thoughtful builder and he’s created a beautiful home with a spectacular floor plan.”

We agree. It’s one of the prettiest homes we’ve seen in a long time.
