Enchanting home designed by Charles Dilbeck

5001 Westridge in England … actually Fort Worth (pPhotos: Trey Freeze Photography)

Charles Dilbeck was a renowned architect of the early 20th Century that designed over 600 homes in Dallas and Fort Worth.  Unlike many architects that stay in the same style or genre, Dilbeck designed homes in a variety of styles throughout his career.

This Dilbeck design at 5001 Westridge Avenue is a French Eclectic home built in the mid-1930s.

To say this home is unique is an understatement.  From the location of the home to the long and winding entrance from the privacy gate to the exterior materials used to the nooks-and-crannies of the interior, this home is truly enchanting!

I love this shot--so many items of interest

Dilbeck designed this French Eclectic home in 1930s

Dilbeck used a myriad of materials such as wood, brick, plaster, and stone that brought a sense of Old World Europe to North Texas.  Hand-carved wooden features, massive chimneys, narrow windows, and a varied height of the roof were staples of the French Eclectic style that transports viewers to the days of Lords and Ladies.

It’s the little things that are sometimes not seen that make 5001 Westridge Avenue special.  Remember in the 1930s, central air conditioning wasn’t common in all homes.  Dutch doors, narrow rooms, and plenty of windows allow for a constant breeze to flow through the home.

The home is 3,260 square feet and consists of three bedrooms, four bathrooms, two living areas, four fireplaces, and more intrigue and interesting secret places than you can imagine.

It’s almost as if by design, Dilbeck wanted to pique our curiosity and make us continue exploring the home in hopes of finding a secret door or surprise around the corner.

While not the open concept of today’s homes, the kitchen is a work of art

The home sits on 1.24 acres and is located across the street from Ridglea Country Club golf course.  It is minutes from downtown but it’s almost as if the entire property whisks you back to a land of fairytales.

A few times I thought that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs were going to come around the corner.  There is a room at the front of the home with an elevated ceiling and beautiful beams that could be where Gaston retreats after a big hunt.  I also wondered if the fireplace in the main family room was where Hansel and Gretel were almost cooked.

Evenings on the back patio – you can almost hear the minstrels playing

While built almost 100 years ago, there are plenty of modern features in the home.  The kitchen has been updated with a large gas range and stainless appliances.  The master bathroom allows for a large walk-in shower and vanities.

Wonder what this bathroom looked like when Dilbeck first designed it
