Adorable Lake Highlands Estates Cottage Sees Contract In Four Days

Renovations can pay off in a big way when it’s time to sell. Our Thursday Three Hundred, a to-the-studs remodel that’s just adorable, saw a contract within four days of hitting the market. That’s impressive.
Located at 515 Kirkwood Dr. in Lake Highlands Estates, this cottage has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 1,172 square feet, built in 1954. It’s in Old Lake Highlands, near N. Buckner Boulevard and E. Lake Highlands Drive, so minutes from the north shores of White Rock Lake. Fantastic location, fabulous house. No wonder it generated so much interest.
The storybook red brick exterior of this cottage adds to the curb appeal, as do new windows, landscaped beds, and an inviting front covered porch. Super cute.
Inside, there are beautiful hardwoods and a neutral palette, which carry through much of the home. The front living area leads to a small formal dining room, which is open to the new kitchen and second living area.
The kitchen has seen the biggest changes—it offers lots of on-trend white cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances (including a gas range), stylish chandelier, recessed lighting, and a center island. Great space.
The bathrooms are another recipient of big renovations: new tile, showers, vanities, mirrors, fixtures, and a fresh look. The bedrooms have hardwood floors and plenty of light from the windows.
The backyard of this cottage features a small deck, room for a grill, and mature shade trees.
It was listed Aug. 27 by Jenny Capritta with Re/Max DFW Associates for $325,000 and went under contract yesterday.
So glad to see that my big pet peeve — a neglected or new box store blah garage door — is addressed here! YAY!!!
That house could use a little curb appeal update – it’s too busy and looks like it was added without much thought –
For example, the siding on the upper portion is vertical and the siding on the right is horizontal. The windows need a bit more white framing on the grey side to match the brick ones. All the whites on the front seem to be slightly different shades (could be an artifact of the photo). The ornamentation on the siding seems to be different in each area. The vertical siding is rounded and fancy while the horizontal is straight and modern.
Fortunately it’s a properly sized facade, so it shouldn’t be too expensive for an enterprising owner with an eye for detail to clean it up. The rest looks great.
