March Madness Means I Want A Private Basketball Court In My Yard and I Want it NOW!

We thought that with March Madness coming up this weekend, a home with a private basketball court was a must for this week’s Inwood Home of the Week.
May I dare say a basketball court might even glean you a better deal on a mortgage? There is really nothing like a basketball sport court to keep the boys and girls entertained. Years ago, we put a tennis court in our backyard complete with basketball hoop all because of a great mortgage rate! The home we had at the time had 1.25 acres and some change. I had four Golden Retrievers, two kids, and it seems Sisyphean that I was constantly cleaning dirt from that acre every time a kid or dog came in. (I finally gave up and kept the vacuum by the door.) One day I found an ad for an introductory mortgage rate at a local bank. A very, very introductory rate. Wow, I thought, we could grab this great rate, refinance and maybe I could put in a tennis court to cover up this whole dang backyard? I did just that. Only it did not cover up the whole yard, it covered the western quadrant. Everyone played tennis and we had a great place for parties! That’s why you are going to love 10427 Lennox Lane. It is essentially a camp, not merely a home. There is a pool, cabana, outdoor kitchen and living area, the sports court, lighted oak trees and of course there’s a media room, wine tasting room, a guest suite and library. The best room of all? The master bath features a stunning stainless silver soak tub. Waldemar never had it so good. All this on one acre in the heart of Preston Hollow, one block over from Strait Lane. Do I need to say more?
This is the real family home of Dr. Mark Godat and his precious wife, Jan, who I get to see each year at the SGA: sort of a show and tell conference for ob/gyns. (Use your imagination on that one!) Mark is an ob/gyn, and has delivered the half of Dallas my husband hasn’t caught. I have been in this home for parties, and know that Mark’s surgical perfection oversaw every bit of the renovation. The bones are exceedingly good if you didn’t like the style you won’t need to do more than to powder the nose, remove a few paintings, call it home. I am in love with the foyer and the front port cochere, which keeps guests dry on days like today.
The 10,117 square foot estate was originally built in 1983, but re-built by Dr. and Mrs. Godat to their strict specifications. And I mean strict like the operating room. The kitchen is not just fully equipped for the most discerning chef, it has hosted them. I also love the cozy breakfast room with fireplace right off it. The home is three stories tall with formals, four living areas, six huge bedrooms, eight full baths and one powder bath, plus the aforementioned media, wine tasting, guest suite and library.
The home has a Texas contemporary aesthetic with that standing seam copper roof, plus the wide rocking porch. Who knows, you might want to rock on Lennox Lane someday. There are walls of glass overlooking the grounds, pool, cabana. That cabana is like a second home in the backyard that will house the kiddos extra friends. I cannot tell you what a great party house this is — outlets have been discreetly placed everywhere to hold speakers, margarita machines and more. The huge 1.27 acre lot is plump with lighted oak trees and rich foliage.
Oh and yes, the basketball court. Listed with The Morguloff Team at Ebby Halliday for $3,500,000 and the good folks at Inwood Bank would love nothing more than to help you get a jumbo on this home. And also get in a few dribbles on the court!
