Aggressive Sales: Preston Hollow Resident Stabbed by Door-To-Door Magazine Solicitor

Share News:

Those door-to-door magazine solicitors are getting way more aggressive — be careful! A magazine solicitor stabbed a 21-year old Preston Hollow resident and WFAA-TV has all the deets: the 21 year old answered the door, and the male solicitor babbled about needing money for an organization:

“He came up and was very inarticulate, and said some kind of babble about needing money for some organization – obviously fake,” the man said.

The victim ended up with 11 stitches in his face after the salesman wouldn’t take no for answer. The victim pulled out a knife and went after him. Last week, a gal named Tontanisha Reed was arrested last week after police say she threatened a homeowner who refused to buy magazines.

According to a police report, she yelled, “You better watch your back. I have friends and they will take care of you, I know where you live.”

I think this ought to end door-to-door solicitation business once and for all, for ALL businesses. Let’s just make it illegal. First of all, who needs those magazines, and the charges are outrageous. I highly doubt the needy young people selling them see much of the revenue. Secondly, you deserve some peace and quiet when you are in your home.

    Which neighborhoods are they targeting?

We are in the Walnut Hills Association – east of Marsh, north of Walnut Hill. I am not certain of the Northern and Eastern borders. Alot of our Facebook members posted seeing "salespeople" at their doors yesterday.

The magazine sellers knock on my door once a year, always in pairs. I have always listened to their story and pitch for the entertainment value, and politely decline when the subscription price is about 3x the rate of DialAmerica. Never had a problem, but then again, I'm a big guy.

The Meadows where I live has an army of daily solicitors and unwelcome flyers, business cards, clothing charity bags, menus and more. Examples of strangers who ring my door bell include roofers, painters, yard men, curb address painters, highshool kids selling whatever, magazine subscriptions, tree trimmers, window cleaners, trash haulers, and Hispanics who love my Hoja Santa herbs in the front yard. They regularly ask to pick leaves for cooking and home remedies (which I enjoy providing). The rest of these people bug the hell out of me on a daily basis some times well after dark.

A note card that reads: KINDLY LEAVE NOW
Has solved unsolicited door bell ringers

Have been working with police in Lakewood area. These people are convicted felons (rapists, murderers) who have just gotten out of prison affiliated with gangs and simply scouting your property to see if u r home to opportunity steal or come back and burglarize your entire place. Have caught them breaking in to my car. THEY NEED A PERMIT TO SOLICIT. Do not answer door but make noise to let them know someone is home and call police. When dispatcher answers, report a "SUSPISCIOUS PERSON IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD" which will get a quicker response. Be ready to give a full description and location they are heading. Do not let them know u r calling police or they will haul out of the neighborhood and dissappear quicker than a cockroach. ALSO PUT OUT "NO SOLICITING" SIGNS…ILLEGAL FOR THEM TO COME ON PROPERTY IF POSTED. These r very dangerous people that r going to get u now or later if they see an opportunity in this organized criminal activity.
