16 Mabank drive ext

If you, like me, are stuck in Dallas this weekend, put an end to that right now with this stupendous listing at the Island at Pinnacle Club on Cedar Creek Lake. Truly one of the most extraordinary homes out there I have seen.

But wait, there’s more!

So yes, I am in Dallas for the weekend, which of course means a trip or two to Cooper Aerobics Center. Who do I see there on the elliptical? Luke and Owen Wilson, in town visiting their parents who still live on Strait Lane, for the Memorial Day weekend. Which got me to thinking about close in lake retreats — you can get to 16 Island Drive in Mabank on Cedar Creek Lake, in less than two hours. Mabank is, of course, the deepest end of Cedar Creek, where Long Cove is sited: best, deepest water and hilly topography.

What does this have to do with Luke and Owen? The folks who own 16 Island Drive are dear friends, former neighbors, and our daughters went to school together. Our girls used to hide in the kitchen cabinets of their Preston Hollow home and spy on their older daughter when she was in high school and dating Owen Wilson, who was a St. Mark’s student. Oh the stories we got! Thank God this was before iPhones, or I’m sure there would have been photos!

So when I saw 16 Island Drive, I couldn’t believe how perfect this home is for having family at the lake, especially their old boyfriends!

This cottage at Long Cove would be a fabulous getaway for a family!

Cedar Creek Lake is a popular go-to location for North Texans who need a little time by the water. It’s a perfect spot to while away a three-day weekend, take the boat out, maybe paddleboard a little. For us, you can’t do much better than Long Cove, a fantastic community of gorgeous luxury properties that make lakefront living a breeze.

“Long Cove was made with family in mind. Beyond the homes and amenities, the heart of our community is focused on reconnecting with those closest to you. Forge meaningful conversations and create lasting memories without any distractions,” said sales director Josh Ellis. “We wanted a place where you can escape close to home and build relationships with new families like yours. We’ve created a haven where you can be a kid with your kids and let the family feel safe to run free, as you once did.”

Doesn’t that sound dreamy?

Here’s the nice thing about owning a home at Long Cove: your spring break vacation is an hour and a half away, and you are already having fun! The whole darn story is waiting for you on SecondShelters.com…Long Cove Dodd's Landing

Is it just me, or is the Vegas all-you-can-drink uber-debauched stag/bachelorette party gone passe? Maybe I’ve watched “The Hangover” one too many times (OK, I watched it once, which may be one too many), I think so. Or maybe it’s just because I’m officially in my 30s, but what this dear CandysDirt.com reader is describing sounds just perfect.

Our dear reader is looking for some out-of-the-way bachelor party accommodations for eight guys to get their relaxing weekend on. Requirements: near a lake or river, within about an hour or two of Dallas, and plenty of room to get rowdy.

This sounds like someone who would really love a weekend stay at Long Cove, which is a perfect second home haven for lake lovers and weekenders on Cedar Creek Lake.

I’m a writer in New York, early 30s, and planning a bachelor party for eight active, outgoing guys in the Dallas area, where I used to live.

The groom is well past the age of Vegas/Hangover-style antics and wants something more low-key. So, I’m looking for a nice house or cabin somewhere outside the city to plan a perfect weekend packed with core summer guy stuff — grilling, fishing, tubing, volleyball, you get the idea.

He’s having a destination wedding, so most of us have already invested quite a bit on his behalf. I could probably squeeze another $200 or so out of everyone—putting our budget around $1,600 to $2,000 for two nights, plus the inevitable extras like food, gas, etc. We’d probably be willing to drive 90 minutes, maybe 2 hours from downtown Dallas.

I’d like to find something truly special — a big, impressive, beautiful place with plenty of things to do on the property where eight guys could comfortably stretch out.

If there’s easy access to amenities like boat/jet ski rentals, golf, etc., even better. The more we can fit into two nights, the better.

429 Sun Valley extIf you left at eight, you’d be in the water by now and still wallowing in luxury. Less than an hour drive from Dallas on the shores of Cedar Creek Lake, the third largest body of water in Texas, 429 Sun Valley comes with a double lot totaling approximately 3.07 acres in the 505 Cedar Creek development, Mabank, Texas.  One of three new high end second home developments out that way, there is Beacon Hill, the 505 and Long Cove on the southern tip of the lake. This home is 5,500 square feet of fun constructed by Dallas builder Jim Reilly of Reilly Homes, Inc. Dallas interior designer Adrienne Sams duded up the interiors. The 505 Ranch Club boasts everything from lake fun, of course, to horse back riding and polo to skeet shooting, an ATV course to stocked fishing ponds and a campground with teepees. This is a concierge-type community where you can enjoy second home living without a full-time caretaker to take care of the mess.

429 Sun Valley foyerThe house holds plenty of kids, best friends and easily sleeps 16. There are four bedrooms, four full baths plus one-half bath in an open floor plan. You will never  worry about your floors with hand-scraped hardwoods everywhere: the dining room and family room combine clerestory and transom windows, creating a massive wall of glass overlooking the lake.  A stunning vaulted ceiling with exposed wood trusses and a handsome wood-burning, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace center the family room.  There is a bar with a Sub-Zero mini-fridge and this is so smart: a locked liquor closet complete with an emergency exit button.

429 Sun Valley LR 429 Cedar Creel Lake LR2The kitchen has everything you will need to attractively cook for and clean up after a crowd: granite countertops, punched tin backsplash, a generous center island with vegetable sink and seating.  There are commercial-grade appliances include two GE Profile dishwashers flanking the main sink, Wolf double ovens, a six-burner gas cook top with griddle for morning flapjacks and a warming drawer. Before you leave, tuck all food into the  Thermador refrigerator/freezer and two Sub-Zero refrigerator drawers.

429 Sun Valley kit 429 Sun Valley porches 429 Sun Valley porchThere are two mud rooms, what you need with wet feet scurrying in and out 24/7. The master bedroom is a true retreat with a fireplace, soaking tub, dual sinks, separate shower and walk-in closets. I am in love with the river rock backspash and tub surround. Also down and great for the in-laws: a guest suite with corner bunk beds and full bath.

Head upstairs for two bedrooms: one a secondary guest bedroom, one a bunk room with paneled walls and ceiling. Up here is also a secondary living room and a game/media room with mini-fridge.

The home captures breathtaking views of the lake and the 505’s lush trees, while a finely-meshed screened-in porch keeps the critters at bay. You also get a porch with fire pit and covered patio. Of course, there is a dual-level dock, tree house, zip line, trampoline and double swing — so much to do!

You are in Kaufman County so load up the gun safe. Security cameras are placed throughout the property and can be monitored from an iPhone or iPad when you are back in Dallas. But if you are like most folks who buy at Cedar Creek, you may end up monitoring the Dallas home more than this one. Asking $1,995,000. Happy Fourth!429 Sun Valley dock

Cottage 19-7

It’s Thursday. Last week about this time we were getting ready to get off for a nice long weekend. Did you, like me, stay put in Big D? But did you vow to have a second home for the next long weekend? Long Cove and the delights of Cedar Creek Lake are only 45 minutes east of us.

I know, it totally looks like Seaside, but without the security check and delays on Southwest. Making my arrangements to visit Long Cove and kick the tires for you over on SecondShelters. Meantime, YOU should check out Long Cove… before I do!
