Home is made for parties and hospitality

This episode of Tarrant County Tuesday is only for those who like to party.  If you don’t like people, don’t like going to parties, or don’t like hosting events at your home, stop reading now.

For the rest of you avid Dirty Readers, let me introduce you to a home that screams “hospitality!”

Lake Living Without The Lake

Have you ever wanted to live near a body of water?  You know, a lake house or beach house where you have tranquil views of the tide or lapping water from your patio?

How about a home with those same qualities … but that’s not located on a lake! Huh?  How can this be?

In the center of the Ridglea Hills neighborhood of Fort Worth lies Luther Lake.  You will probably remember that I wrote about a home on Luther Lake a few years ago.

Luther Lake is a hidden lake in the middle of Ridglea Hills in Fort Worth.

Calmont Avenue

An enclave of Fort Worth known for its safety and friendliness, Ridgelea Hills has become more and more attractive to buyers looking for mature trees and stellar family homes. This sweet midcentury ranch is the perfect intersection of these two desires, as the home not only retains much of its traditional ranch charm, but has updates that put a fresh spin on its style.

Ridglea Hills also benefits from a stellar west side location — just south of Interstate 30 and north of Camp Bowie Blvd. — so this neighborhood has excellent accessibility for commuters. Plus, there’s great shopping on Camp Bowie, tons of great nearby restaurants, and the historic Ridglea Theater for those who enjoy live music.

So if you’re looking for a great midcentury ranch in Ridglea Hills, but have a bit of a tight budget, this gem on Calmont Ave. could be just the thing.

Ridglea HillsYes, yes, we know we just threw two groan-worthy puns in a headline, but seriously — this Ridglea Hills corner lot home is one of those houses you’ll be very sorry you didn’t jump on (see what we did there?) immediately.

We’d be remiss, however, not to mention this backyard at 6478 Lindell Avenue in Fort Worth. Yes, the house is updated, adorable, and ready for move-in, but it’s Easter, and this yard — from the lush grass to the covered back porch with ceiling fans to cut that Texas heat — is just begging for the Easter Bunny to visit and hide a few eggs.

First MCM in Ridglea Hills? Apparently

According to stories, 4415 Tamworth Rd. was the first Midcentury Modern home built in Ridglea Hills.

First, let’s be honest — we love winners. Whether it’s the first place ribbon you got for the egg toss in second grade or picking the Final Four correctly, we love being first!

How about the opportunity to own the first ever Midcentury Modern home built in the glorious neighborhood of Ridglea Hills in Fort Worth?

According to stories, the first Midcentury Modern home was built in 1960 at 4415 Tamworth Road, and is the subject of today’s Tarrant County Tuesday column.

Brants Lane

Brants Lane — across from Luther Lake and within walking distance to Ridglea Hills Country Club — is sited in such a choice location in Ridglea Hills that more than a few of its residents are the second generation of the original owners. Built in 1954, 6720 Brants Lane is loaded with 3,590 square feet of midcentury, high-style panache, and has been given a stunning, stylish makeover by Fort Worth Friday friend Terri West.

Westridge Ave.

If I wanted to write about a premiere listing in Rivercrest, Westover, or Montserrat, chances were better than even I would be looking at a John Zimmerman listing. In fact, at times it was difficult not to write about star agent John Zimmerman.

Since moving to the high-tech, New York-based Compass agency, Zimmerman has continued to thrive with an impressive record of multimillion-dollar sales and a dazzling portfolio of properties on offer. It has been a while since I’ve covered  a John Zimmerman listing, but after writing this I notice that my noble publisher and I are quite literally on the same page today. No matter. A garden home in Ridglea Hills, No. 11 at 4900 Westridge is too wonderful to ignore. (more…)

You never know what you're going to get

4013 Clayton Road East in Ridglea Hills is like a box of chocolates (photos: Trey Freeze Media)

To paraphrase from the great Forrest Gump:”Some homes are like a box of choc-o-lates … you never know what you’re going to get.”

(Side note: how did Gump beat out Shawshank Redemption for Best Picture in 1994 … preposterous!)

Truer words could not be spoken when referring to this week’s Tarrant County Tuesday home located at 4013 Clayton Road E in the Ridglea Hills neighborhood of Fort Worth.

Searching for a story idea, I ponder, “What’s available and charming for $250,000?” Answer. Grim. Very little.

Any Realtor will confirm that inventory is stubbornly scarce in that price range. For just a bit more there is Fairmount. But we’ve gone a bit heavy on Fairmount of late. How about an area we haven’t covered lately. Mature trees would be nice. Would good modern design with less-than-celestial pricing be out of the question? I comb listing after listing. Next page. Scroll, scroll. Finally and happily I land at 4325 Hyatt Court in Ridglea Hills.
