Developer David Craig was in the right place at the right time when he bought the first tracts of land for Craig Ranch 15 years ago, north of State Highway 121 in McKinney.

With northward expansion of the population and careful planning by Craig for the mixed-use development, the 2,200-acre planned community has been hugely successful, with 2,359 houses, more than 1,000 apartment homes, retail, and commercial space. It is one of the largest developments in Collin County and more than 9,000 people call Craig Ranch home; in January, it enters the final phases of residential build-out.

For Craig, that means plans to build a final 1,434 houses and more than 3,000 apartment homes over the next 28 months. Builders will be Ashton Woods Homes, Beazer Homes, Darling Homes, David Weekley Homes, Landon Homes, and Megatel, with houses ranging in price from $300,000 to more than $600,000. Craig’s partner in the development is VanTrust Real Estate.

“This final phase of residential construction in Craig Ranch is timed perfectly with the strong housing demand in the area,” David Craig, founder and developer of Craig Ranch, told “We expect to have 20,000 residents when this next generation of homes is complete in about five years.” Jump to read more!

_header-CraigRanch-hole1This month PartyLine Real Estate takes you north to Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.  McKinney’s consistently being named one of the best cities to live in and raise a family. How amazing is it that we are telling the Craig Ranch story on the heels of some of the most exciting news in North Texas history? I’m talking about Toyota moving its North American Headquarters to Plano, Texas. One single campus at the intersection of the Dallas North Tollway and Sam Rayburn will house Toyota’s North American headquarters for manufacturing, sales and marketing, and corporate operations. Over the course of three years, 4,000 Toyota employees will be relocating in the area. The home sales! Cha-ching! (more…)

You simply must read this great piece from Dallas CultureMap on our own Tina Craig, who pens the popular and extremely influential and popular blog Bag Snob. Not only does she give the word “snob” a new interpretation (and respect), she has some damn good advice that mimics my own web experiences: be nice to everybody.

“I had been corresponding with a woman who I thought was a 20-year-old college student saving up for her first designer bag. She thought I was a cranky 60-year-old woman from the Upper East Side,” Craig says. “Turns out she was Linda Grant, an award-winning author whose best friend was the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman. Be good to everybody, because you just never know.”

Of course, I’m a real estate snob and proud of it. And actually, so is Tina: her husband is David Craig, one of the founders of Craig Ranch in McKinney. I have seen some of the high end homes up there on the TPC. Craig Ranch was rated as the number two best place to live by Money Magazine, who chose McKinney. When I interviewed David, I relayed a story of how my husband one morning accused me of not coming home the night before — he did not realize I had been on the computer all night, blogging. David related completely.

“Happens at our house all the time,” he said. “Maybe your husband and I should get together!”
