first homeWhen you’re a young family, you look for certain things in your first home — and first and foremost, you’re probably going to be looking for the home that can give you the most bang for your buck.

It’s one of the reason we bring our readers regular features like the Tuesday Two Hundred and the Thursday Three Hundred — and this week’s Thursday offering is a great example of how the $300,000 range can get you a great move-in ready first home with loads of potential for putting your stamp on the abode as well.

This North Dallas Midcentury Ranch at 3179 Jubilee Trail was built in 1961 and has a lot of the hallmarks we expect from the Fox & Jacobs era of Dallas — an open floor plan, a focal point fireplace, and bedroom layouts that provide generous bunking spaces.

It’s a floor plan that holds up to the ever-changing and cyclical vagaries of popular design choices over decades. The wallpaper may change, the tile may go from a country style mosaic to a sleek subway tile, and flooring choices may go from shag to laminate to Berber to wood, but that floorplan? What was family and entertaining-friendly in the sixties is just as family and entertaining-friendly today.

Live a Charmed Cottage Life in this Renovated House Near McKinney Square | CandysDirt.com

We’ve found sweet cottage style and a coveted address just blocks from McKinney Square, remodeled and move-in ready.

Our Thursday Three Hundred at 504 N. Bradley St. is in the McKinney Historic District, a rejuvenated area that draws people from all over that city and DFW.

“The whole square of downtown is what people come up to see — its the true old downtown, charming atmosphere,” said listing agent Marilyn Iness with Coldwell Banker Apex, Realtors. “This area is attracting a lot of millennials and would also make a great vacation rental since there’s not a lot of hotel availability [nearby].”

The house itself is beautifully redone, yet maintains its character in three bedrooms, three bathrooms, two living areas, and 1,522 square feet on one story, built in 1950. There’s an open house this Sunday, Sept. 16, from 2-4 p.m. Sneak peek, anyone?

You know we’re suckers for open houses! They’re great ways to get a feel for how a home lives, and they can be eye opening when it comes to discovering new neighborhoods and enclaves. Though we keep hearing about a slow-down in the market, we’re still getting invites in all directions to tour some of the best homes in Dallas and beyond. We couldn’t help but share a very special open house tour featuring none other than North Dallas’ Preston Trails/Bent Tree neighborhoods.

“This is a great area with a tremendous convenient location, often overlooked,” says Jacqui Bloomquist, who is representing the gorgeous four-bedroom, four-bathroom home at 5818 Preston Fairways Drive during the Sept. 1 open house tour. “Most of these are zero-lot-line homes in terrific neighborhoods — Bent Tree Royal, Preston Trails Fairways, and Cambridge Place at Preston Trails!”

Because everyone deserves a loving home.

Coldwell Banker is a big name in helping people find homes. But on Saturday, Sept. 9, they’re adding some new clients to their roster – the four-footed, tail-wagging sort. In partnership with Adopt-A-Pet.com, Coldwell Banker founded the Homes for Dogs Project in 2015 with the goal of helping our canine friends find homes during National Pet Adoption Weekend.  Last year alone, the partnership homed over 22,000 dogs.

Realtor Cody Farris joined the event this year and is passionate about making it a success. “This is a cause that has already made a big difference, and I wanted to see if we could take it to the next level this year,” he said.

A lifelong animal-lover, Farris takes his responsibilities to these furry clients personally. “I grew up with dogs and I’m a big pet person,” he added. “This is really close to my heart.”

Lake Highlands North Home for Sale | Dallas Homes for Sale | CandsDirt.com

We look at a lot of houses here at CandysDirt.com. The ones that stand out are almost always staged in a way that showcases amenities, function, and flow. Buyers can better imagine themselves in a home with furniture and accessories, and a tastefully furnished home — with no clutter or weirdness — will sell a home a lot faster than an empty place.

Our Thursday Three Hundred at 10323 Vistadale Dr. in Lake Highlands North stands as a beautiful example of staging done right. They show off the recently completed renovations that check off lots of buyer “wants.” Think Carrera Marble, wood-burning fireplace, gorgeous hardwood floors, and manicured landscaping.

“This property has great character and personality, not to mention being in an established, popular area like Lake Highlands,” said listing agent Patty Herbert with Coldwell Banker Apex Realtors. “The renovation has made this home more contemporary, yet kept many of the original, unique features.”

This home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living rooms, and 1,900 square feet, built in 1962. Come, take a tour with us.
