The Cantoni House: A Showcase of Great Design in Preston Hollow

Los Angeles, Miami, and New York have nothing on Dallas designers. We have the best. The Cantoni House at 5903 Lakehurst Avenue is a perfect example of what can happen when you give creative license to a design dream team.
Cantoni is a retail showroom specializing in cutting-edge furnishings and interior design with six locations across the U.S. When it opened in 1984 an audible gasp went up from the very traditional Dallas design scene. Founder and CEO Michael Wilkov scoured Europe for bold furnishings and accessories and brought Dallas a fresh perspective to home design.
As if that wasn’t enough, Wilkov determined that hiring design consultants, instead of salespeople, was the best way to create a full customer service experience. Personal design services and access to the world’s most exciting collection of modern luxury furniture, all under one roof, was a brilliant concept that has stood the test of time. Over the past 30-plus years, from Dallas to Dubai, Cantoni has become the go-to resource for anyone craving a modern luxury look.
The Cantoni house was Wilkov’s brainchild. To mark the 25th anniversary of his company he decided to build a house — but not just any house. It was to be the ultimate modern home. Think: state-of-the-art everything. Wilkov’s team worked with architect Jason Kongabel, principal with Mohment Architecture, to create a unique, stylish, comfortable, family home where entertaining would be effortless. Wilkov completed construction in 2009, and every detail of the 7,771-square-foot house was planned with great care and meticulously executed. The home has three living spaces, five bedrooms, five bathrooms, two powder baths, and a four-car garage — something we don’t see often enough in Dallas. Wilcov pulled out all the stops creating a home that is not only stunning but also smart, efficient, and highly livable.
“The Cantoni House was an amazing experience for the Cantoni team and myself,” Wilkov said. “Building this home allowed us to explore, first-hand, all aspects of the construction process, working as a team with the architects, and designing a home from the ground up. We took advantage of amazing opportunities with all our resources to create a one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art, modern masterpiece in the heart of Dallas.”
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Dave Perry-Miller listing agent Megan Stern said. “The 22-foot-long counter that runs from the bar through the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where everyone hangs out.” The party can move effortlessly into the backyard as floor-to-ceiling glass doors open from the kitchen and family room to the pool and completely maintenance-free artificial turf yard.
Ex Design Group created the stylish and sleek outdoor living areas.
“The exterior space is almost like having a second home,” Stern said. And yes, the fantastic yard art is staying with the house.
“At Cantoni, we believe that great design enriches lives – that a space does much more than merely exist; it influences, ignites memories, and ultimately brings joy.”
Stern has the home listed for $2.995 million. Considering the design genius behind this showcase of modern design, we think that’s a steal!
