One of East Dallas’ quaint neighborhoods has a cute midcentury home that’s just gone on the market.
The house at 8335 Banquo Dr. in Claremont is 1,511 square feet of 1959 charms and new renovations, like a a redesigned open floorplan with modern amenities. It’s a 2-2 with hardwood floors, fresh paint, refinished hardwoods, recessed lights, and a totally new kitchen and bathrooms. Claremont is one of the older, more established neighborhoods in East Dallas with about 600 homes, located southeast of White Rock Lake and north of Interstate 30. The area is full of one-story ranch-style brick homes and cottages, built largely from the late 1950s to early 1960s. They have an active neighborhood association, and lots of community pride. It’s a great part of Dallas.
This Claremont home was listed Dec. 22 by Edwina Dye with Ebby Halliday for $265,900.
To the left of the small entryway and midcentury-style front door is the living room, a formerly separate room that now opens to the family room, thanks to renovations that created a more modern floorplan. Those rich hardwoods are in the living and family rooms as well as the two bedrooms. New recessed lighting keeps the space bright. The family room has a sliding glass door leading to the covered patio and backyard.
The owners have done a great job of staging this home—their furnishings show off function and use, and make it inviting. Another big place for renovations in this Claremont cottage: the kitchen. It now boasts lighted glass cabinets, wood cabinets with touch-close drawers, granite counters, new fixtures, and stainless steel appliances. galley kitchens in homes of this era were typically closed off and dark. The owners’ renovations opened it up and gave it a half wall leading into the family room. The two bedrooms show off their best sides with the refinished hardwoods. The master has an ensuite bathroom with a new wood vanity with stone counters, modern fixtures, new lights, toilet, and mirror. The bathtub has new white subway tiles and there are new cabinets nearby for storage.
The guest bathroom is also renovated, with a new vanity, walk-in tiled shower, new mirror and lights, and new toilet. Photos of the garage don’t usually make it into an MLS listing, but this one is one of the prettiest you’ll see this week. Looks like you could eat off that floor, which again, is not something you usually say about garages.
The backyard of this Claremont house is large and grassy with mature trees, but only one section of wood fence—the rest is chain link. Easily fixable, though, for a price.
According to Realtor.com, the median home price in Claremont is $234,000, or $154 per square foot. MLA shows nine recent comps ranging from $105 to $165 per square foot (average: $142; median: $153). This home is listed for $265,900, or $175 per square foot. That’s ambitiously priced, but the home is beautifully renovated and move-in ready. What do you think of this home and its price?
