‘Great Day Café’ Playhouse Serves Up Design and Impact as Parade of Playhouses Draws to a Close

If you’ve wandered through NorthPark Center lately, there’s a good chance something stopped you in your tracks: a showcase of one-of-a-kind children’s playhouses built with love by local builders, designers, and architects — and all for a good cause.
Dallas CASA’s annual Parade of Playhouses kicked off on May 22, and the last day to see those imaginative playhouses is this Sunday, June 7. Visitors can enjoy the creative builds and enter raffles for a chance to win their favorite designs.
One of those designs is a tiny café that feels surprisingly familiar, yet completely magical. Meet the “Great Day Café,” a standout in Dallas CASA’s Parade of Playhouses and a perfect example of how imagination and intention can come together in the most delightful ways.

At just 8 by 8 feet, this miniature café is packed with personality. A hand-painted mural greets visitors with the cheerful message “It’s a good day for a good day,” setting the tone for what’s inside: a chalkboard for daily specials, a cozy breakfast bar that seats
three, and carefully crafted details that mirror a full-scale restaurant experience.
“This is truly a mini First Watch for kids to have in their backyard,” said Kyle Weber of First Watch Restaurants.
From the whimsical whisk-shaped light fixtures to the signature chalkboard elements found in every location, the playhouse was intentionally designed to replicate the brand’s warm, welcoming feel.

“We modeled this house after our restaurants and partnered with design and construction teams in the home office,” Weber said. “We used the same items you’d find in our restaurants.”
The result is both playful and polished, the kind of thoughtful design that feels right at home in a space like NorthPark Center, where creativity and craftsmanship are always on display.
As Dallas CASA president and CEO Kathleen LaValle put it, “There’s truly imagination baked into every house.”
Of course, the Great Day Café isn’t just about design. It’s also about impact. Proceeds from the Parade of Playhouse raffle go to support the children served by Dallas CASA. Behind the scenes, that support translates into something far more meaningful: advocacy for children in Dallas County who have experienced abuse or neglect. Dallas CASA ensures each child has a trained volunteer advocate, someone who shows up consistently, speaks up for their needs, and helps guide them toward a safe, stable future.

The Great Day Café also highlights a deeper partnership between First Watch and Dallas CASA, one rooted in shared values and ongoing support. Right now, 25 cents from every kids’ meal at First Watch locations in D-FW is donated to Dallas CASA, extending the impact of this collaboration far beyond NorthPark.
“It warms our hearts to partner with such a great cause whose values align so closely with ours,” Weber said.
That commitment shows up not just in this build, but in the intentionality behind it and in the continued investment in the children Dallas CASA serves.
Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. So stop by, pick your favorite, and try your luck because this is one raffle where everyone walks away knowing they’ve made a difference. Ticket sales end at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Winners will be drawn later in the day.
