Heritage Oak Cliff Home Tour: 600 Rainbow Dr. Is a Tasteful Reimagining of East Kessler Classic

As the 2025 Heritage Oak Cliff Fall Home Tour is set to kick off Oct. 25 and 26, tour organizers are celebrating a unique feature of the tour this year: Homes on the tour this year span over a 100-year time-period. The oldest home on the tour is a 1923 Craftsman Bungalow in Kings Highway and the newest is this gem at 600 Rainbow Dr., a 2024 Contemporary Modern revisioning of the original home in the Guggenheim Acres addition of East Kessler Park. CandysDirt.com is proud to be the tour’s media sponsor and as such, we’re giving you insight into the seven homes on this year’s tour:

Perched on a hillside in Oak Cliff, the property of 600 Rainbow Drive carries a rich history of homeowners and legacies significant to Dallas. When originally completed in 1941, the Dallas Morning News hailed it as “one of the most elaborate homes to be constructed in Oak Cliff,” a $75,000 estate designed for John Yakimo, president of the Yakimo Construction Company. With its twelve rooms, three baths, and sweeping “dancing decks” overlooking the landscape, the residence embodied post-Depression prosperity and modern suburban luxury. The eleven-acre estate featured a swimming pool, tennis court, a three-car garage, and full servants’ quarters — an opulent canvas for Yakimo and his bride to begin their newlywed life.
Eight decades later, the site has been carefully reborn. In 2024, homeowners Brooke and Jason Moser unveiled their reimagined vision for 600 Rainbow Drive, ushering it into the 21st century. Though officially considered a remodel under city standards — retaining the original footings and garage — the project was in truth a meticulous ground-up build. The Mosers collaborated with local Oak Cliff architectural designer and friend Patrick Craine, blending his expertise with Brooke’s designer’s eye.

Inside, the home glows with natural textures and warmth. Terracotta tiles, wood-clad ceilings, and plastered walls establish a timeless, organic palette. The dining room’s expansive windows and simple pendant lighting frame views of the surrounding landscape, while the living room — with exposed beams and a softly arched fireplace — echoes the Southwest’s architectural traditions.
The kitchen is a showpiece: a generous island washed in soft sage, paired with brass fixtures and crowned by a dramatic skylight that bathes the space in sunlight.

The bedrooms offer serene retreats, with plaster niches and understated detailing recalling the home’s historic character, while expansive glass doors connect the interiors to lush greenery outside.
Beyond the main rooms, stonework terraces and a towering outdoor fireplace anchor the outdoor living spaces, extending the home’s modern-rustic spirit into the garden. A sleek tiled pool glistens just beyond, recalling the estate’s 1940s luxuries in contemporary form.

The nearly two-year project was not just about building a home, but about preserving a sense of place. “We kept a very similar floor plan as the previous house,” they note, a gesture of respect to the original estate. The result is a seamless marriage of history and modernity — an Oak Cliff landmark reborn for a new generation.
