A Timeless Midcentury Modern in Hillcrest Forest

If there is one architectural style that Dallas loves, it’s Midcentury Modern. It’s captivated us for decades because it resonates on multiple levels — and this timeless home is an excellent example of why we love the style.
Out of the many reasons these homes are so hot is that one-story living is in high demand today, and it’s actually pretty hard to find. Builders find it hard to get a decent return on investment with single-story construction, so it’s no longer their go-to.
Design is, of course, the main reason we love these homes. From the abundance of natural light to the open floor plan, clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows, and use of natural elements, we just can’t get enough!

This timeless Midcentury Modern home was originally advertised as The Suburbanite in 1954. My favorite part of the Realtor’s description reads “featuring today ideas from tomorrow’s dream kitchens with a bevy of built-ins.” I think I’m going to steal that last bit for future use!

I believe Cyril B. Roach was probably the first owner. Records on his life have him in the home going back to 1963. He remained here until 2002, a testament to how well this home served his family. There have only been four owners since this home was built, each adding their own touch. When the Roach family sold it to the second owners, architect Craig Henry and his wife Jennifer, they took the house to the studs and reinvented it in perfect midcentury style. The next owner added a period-appropriate pool and the present owners took the house even further by adding some gorgeous landscaping to create a total Palm Springs vibe on the almost-half-acre corner property.

With 2,680 square feet, three bedrooms, and three bathrooms, it’s a truly move-in-ready home, and the location could not be better. Most people don’t know every little neighborhood like we do, so let me give you some insight. This beauty is in the Hill Haven Heights neighborhood within Hillcrest Forest. It is just south of the Jan Mar neighborhood, which is best known for The Round House. The major boundary roads are Hillcrest Road, Forest Lane, Royal Lane, and Central Expressway. You can walk to the JCC (Jewish Community Center) and be downtown in 10 minutes.
