Residents near Love Field may soon circle a date on their calendars for the completion of the Lemmon Avenue Streetscape Project. At last week’s Dallas Love Field Good Neighbor Program meeting, officials reported that the enhancement project is about 80% complete and on track for a fall 2025 opening — and the city is hoping to officially celebrate its completion on Oct. 25.

“That is a very, very tentative date,” said Rozalind Dickerson Cleaver, community engagement manager for the City of Dallas Department of Aviation.

The Good Neighbor Program, created in 2017, is the airport’s community engagement effort to address neighborhood noise concerns and share updates on projects that affect nearby residents.

The streetscape comes as part of the most recent airport master plan update, which will bring more trees, landscaping, and trails to the neighboring communities around Dallas Love Field. When completed, the approximately $36 million project will transform the walkability and greenspace for the area around Dallas Love Field and Bachman Lake Park, offering needed enhancements to safety, walkability, and bicycle-friendliness to Lemmon Avenue and surrounding areas.

“Expanding safe access to Bachman Lake Park and Greenbelt is a top priority for Friends of Bachman Lake (FoBL), and the new Lemmon Avenue streetscape provides residents of Shorecrest, Northpark, and Elm Thicket with a safe and welcoming pathway to the lake,” said Ryan Moore, president of the FoBL.

The enhanced trail will also help lessen the “heat cone” that encompasses those neighborhoods and others. In 2023, Bachman Lake Park, which abuts Dallas Love Field, was found to be a part of the “urban heat island.”

Areas where there are fewer trees and more pavement can be as much as 20 degrees hotter than areas where there are more trees and greenery. The addition of more than 200 trees along Lemmon Avenue and inside Bachman Lake Park will hopefully lessen the effects on the surrounding neighborhood residents.

Flight Tracker to Help with Noise Complaints

Probably one of the greatest gripes regarding Dallas Love Field is the noise that is generated from the air field. In an effort to address the ease at which residents can report noise issues, the Good Neighbor meeting reviewed a new flight tracker, which residents can use to report what they believe to be noise violations.

“With the flight tracker you will be able to tell us which flight caused you any problems,” Cleaver said.

From the April through June 2025 time period, 14.6% of the complaints made said the planes were too loud while the primary issue reported concerned aviation noise that occurred too late in the day or early morning.

Cleaver also provided an update on the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Station 21 construction. The overall construction of the project is 30 percent complete with it estimated to be finished in Spring 2026.

The new station will be located in between the runways and will allow for a reponse time of three minutes for any emergencies along the runways.

The Taxiway A Rehab progject is 70 percent complete.

Also expected to be complete in Spring 2026 is the rehab of Taxiway A, Cleaver said. The overall project is 70 percent complete.

The next Good Neighbor Program Community Meeting will be held in fall 2025.
