Design Lovers, Take Note: A Restored Ju-Nel Home Just Listed Near White Rock Lake

Designed by Dallas Midcentury Modern trailblazers Lyle Rowley and Jack Wilson of Ju-Nel Homes, this 1964 gem in Lochwood is more than just a beautifully preserved time capsule — it’s a piece of architectural history. And did we mention it’s just cool all around? I mean, come on!
This home at 11521 Lochwood Blvd. offers an opportunity to own a meticulously restored yet lightly touched example of the firm’s organic, site-driven design philosophy.
Ju-Nel builds are among the most sought-after midcentury residences in East Dallas, revered for their expressive lines, dramatic rooflines, and seamless connection to the outdoors. With approximately 150 Ju-Nel homes built in the area — mostly located in Lochwood, Lake Highlands, Old Lake Highlands, Lakewood, and Forest Hills — each remaining example is a collector’s item for design enthusiasts. They’re also popular on home tours like the White Rock Home Tour, which is taking place April 26-27. Listing agent David Collier and CandysDirt.com are both sponsors of the annual home tour.

Rowley and Wilson launched Ju-Nel Homes in the late 1950s with the goal of bringing the modernist movement — already sweeping California — to Dallas. Influenced by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Joseph Eichler, the duo emphasized natural materials, functional floorplans, and architecture that responded directly to its environment. Ju-Nels were often built on heavily wooded or sloped lots, with large windows, floating decks, and split-level layouts designed to highlight rather than fight the terrain.

This particular home exemplifies that ethos. The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath floorplan wraps around a lush 0.34-acre lot, with a cantilevered wraparound deck that appears to float in the trees. Inside, original Ju-Nel details remain intact: vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, a brick floor entry, and walls of glass that bring nature into every room.
The main living area sits elevated among the treetops, with sweeping windows and direct access to the deck, giving it the feel of a modernist treehouse. The updated kitchen blends style and function with White Macaubas quartzite countertops, custom walnut cabinetry, a Thermador six-burner cooktop, and KitchenAid double ovens.

The primary suite includes its own vaulted ceiling, a bonus sitting room or office, and an outdoor atrium — another signature Ju-Nel feature that brings natural light and fresh air into private living spaces. Two additional bedrooms, a half bath for guests, and a fully renovated hall bath complete the main home.

Out back, there’s no shortage of space to unwind or entertain. A 225-square-foot art studio and a large storage building complement a multi-tiered backyard with mature trees and multiple gathering spots. There’s also a side deck perfect for dining al fresco.

Ju-Nel homes rarely come to market — and when they do, they tend to go fast. This one is open Sunday, April 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. It’s a true showcase of midcentury Dallas architecture in a quiet, wooded neighborhood just minutes from White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum.
This Ju-Nel gem at 11521 Lochwood Blvd. is listed for $785,000.
My middle school friend Jeff lived in that house!! It’s hands a few times and it looks fabulous
I toured this today and it was fantastic, no notes. Already under contract by the time we got there, with a backup offer expected.
