This JanMar Midcentury Modern Re-Emerges to Resume Its Place in the Limelight

A couple of years ago, we had the pleasure of covering one of Dallas’ most incredible Midcentury Modern homes in the iconic JanMar neighborhood. Having been on the market just days, this listing sold almost immediately. Thankfully, it found an owner who understood the assignment…
One of the most endearing architectural styles in America, Midcentury Modern not only evokes nostalgia, but it’s also a particular favorite with CandysDirt.com readers. With aesthetics that transcend architecture itself, this design philosophy leaves its mark across art, fashion, furniture, and beyond. Fans of the movement are, without a doubt, some of the most discerning architecture enthusiasts out there. Therefore, the preservation of these homes is often quite impressive.
Reintroducing the Midcentury Modern on Mason Dells

Designed by architect Jack Morgan, 7707 Mason Dells Drive is one such case. When it first reappeared on the market in 2023, it drew so much attention for its authenticity, history, and character. With severe lines, sweeping windows, and seasoned acorn accents, this home stood as a time capsule to the swankiest period in American history. When we learned it would undergo an extensive revitalization, we nearly held our breaths in anticipation.
Now, after more than two years, this JanMar Midcentury Modern masterpiece is once again back in the public eye. With a plethora of updates, enhancements, and augmentations, it’s safe to say it may be better than ever.
“This home has been meticulously enhanced,” said listing agent Amanda Rupley with Compass RE Texas. “Its current resident is a prominent area physician, and this revitalization has been a real passion project. It was originally custom-built for Marvin and Vivian Jones in 1966, and almost every corner holds a piece of this family’s story. Every decision made not only accounts for the current resident’s taste and reverence for the movement but also considers what he believes Marvin and Vivian Jones would have wanted themselves.”
A Classic Home Receives a Curated Facelift

Aside from some landscaping updates, this home maintains its iconic A-frame exterior. A hallmark of this home, it would be a crime to alter any of the original vision here.
“Of course, the boulder in the front lawn remains,” said Rupley. “That was a memento of Marvin’s and is positioned just within view of his office. He brought it home as part of one his first real estate deals, and it served to remind him just how far he’d come in life.”

The interior has seen a transformation of epic proportions. One of the first things you notice when walking in is a darker hue. Previously, the home bore acorn accents throughout. Now, those elements feature walnut finishes. Both colors are iconic of the era, so these enhancements don’t seem out of place at all.

Of course, the original brick accents and terrazzo floors remain, adding an iconic textural contrast throughout. The grand living area is surrounded by walls of glass and anchored by soaring ceilings with exposed beams. Here, updates continue with $50,000 worth of Troy Lighting chandeliers.
Honoring the Past, Elevating the Future

Perhaps the most significant alteration can be seen through the kitchen. Previously, this space was enclosed. However, this project created an opportunity to open it up, adding a beautiful island along with premium appliances, including a 48 Wolf range, Sub-Zero fridge, Sub-Zero wine fridge, Scotsman ice maker, and Cove dishwasher. This area not only creates an unparalleled chef’s paradise but also ups the entertaining factor of this home.
“The Jones’ were very big on entertaining,” said Rupley. “Therefore, the idea was to honor that by creating a space conducive to gathering.”

Of course, the primary suite (Vivian’s Room) is an absolute work of art. It adjoins a private solarium, balancing the indoors and outdoors in a way only striking Midcentury Modern can.
The ensuite bathroom benefits from a tasteful renovation. Here, exotic quartz, rich wood tones, and Frank Lloyd Wright collection fixtures create a stunning scene. With a wet room, dual vanities, and smart toilets, this elevated spa escape has every amenity accounted for.

“You’ll notice these small dark copper touches in the ensuite,” said Rupley. “These are meant to mirror other updates throughout the home. The thought that went into every detail here cannot be understated.”
The Extras Abound in This JanMar Midcentury Modern

As you traverse this home, the square footage seems almost endless, so this abundance of extras creates quite the lavish environment. Of course, there is the expansive office with an abundance of built-ins. There are multiple bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bath.

Then, the heart of this JanMar Midcentury Modern home is the awe-inspiring indoor swimming pool. Complete with its own wet bar, this space sits at the apex of MCM design, bringing together interior and exterior spaces in a truly stunning way. With a wow factor this stunning, this home could really be one of the most iconic properties in North Texas.
