Lake homes have changed drastically over the past few years. No longer are we seeing simple rustic getaways. Now, lake living looks just like city living. Notable builders, architects, and interior designers are sought after to create the ultimate retreat where lifelong memories can be made. And this Long Cove family retreat in Henderson County has raised the bar for lake living to an unprecedented level.

A dream team shaped this waterfront project: architect Christy Blumenfeld, builder William Palmer, interior designer Michelle Nussbaumer, and landscape architect Lance Dickinson of DDLA Design. Together, they created a multi-generational retreat that redefines luxury lake living.

Because of the lot size (just over an acre fronting Cedar Creek Lake), Blumenfeld was able to create a separate carriage house arched over the driveway.

“Once you’re inside the motor court, you feel like no one can see inside. It offers a lot of privacy,” she said.

This is one of the few homes with a private two-slip boat dock.

Blumenfeld created an almost butterfly architectural plan.

“Two wings of the house extend from a central core, which allows for multiple layers of light,” she said.

The main residence spans approximately 14,000 square feet over three levels, each accessible by elevator. The dramatic great room — the central gathering space — features white oak vaulted ceilings, a light-filled cupola, exposed beams, a grand fireplace, and expansive walls of glass that open to terraces and covered outdoor living areas.

The floor plan is designed so everyone has a beautiful view of the lake. It offers great gathering spaces but also private areas for each member of the family. If you want to have a more secluded moment, there are two libraries, a wellness center and gym, a phantom screened porch, and a club-like boys’ room with a bar and pool table. The kids have a dedicated playroom, and everyone will enjoy the media center.

The main house and the 1,682-square-foot carriage house together can sleep up to 30 people. The carriage house offers three bedrooms and three baths, as well as extra bunk space designed for guests or extended stays, making it ideal for accommodating groups.

“All the finishes are really fun,” Blumenfeld said. “There are interesting ceilings and whimsical detailing around the bunks. I loved the project. The views are going to be magical for the person who buys it.”

The home will be completed by the summer of this year.

Of course, lake houses are about the outdoors. This Long Cove family retreat offers a resort-style pool and spa with his-and-hers changing rooms overlooking the lake, plus multiple terraces for morning coffee or late afternoon cocktails.

“This property is its own clubhouse,” Nussbaumer said. “There are a lot of wow moments in the house. For someone looking for an amazing family property just in time for summer, this is it.”

Compass Real Estate agents McKamy Looney, Michelle Wood, and Amy Detwiler have this Long Cove family retreat at 13660 Blue Sky Dr. by Cedar Creek Lake in Malakoff listed for $15.995 million.
