This Rare Turtle Creek North Double Unit Has Charmed Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall, and Anne Rice

Had you lived in this Turtle Creek North condo a few decades ago, you may well have run into Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. Hall is rumored to have owned the penthouse here during the couple’s 22-year relationship, so the odds favor that scenario. As far as other celebs, our favorite vampire writer, Anne Rice, was also said to have owned a unit here. Had they known Scott Parks of Scott Parks Studio, an award-winning residential architecture firm, they would most assuredly have had him design their units.
In 2017, Parks and partner Ali Haji, a licensed professional counselor and owner of YogaZama, were living on the fourth floor of 3701 Turtle Creek Blvd., known as Turtle Creek North, in the E unit. When they found out this double unit on the 8th floor was hitting the market, they snagged it.
“I was familiar with the protected Turtle Creek views,” Parks said. “The F units look right at Turtle Creek and downtown. This one had been combined with the E unit, so it is the only one like it in the building. I always wished I had a 90-degree view further south, and that is what the additional unit provided.”

Notable political consultant Carol Reed, who ran former mayor Ron Kirk’s campaign, had been the prior owner. She was known for entertaining, and her annual Christmas party was apparently legendary. She made some unique changes to the condo to accommodate her parties, like turning a bathroom into a pantry and the second unit’s kitchen into a bar. Parks returned the pantry to its original use, and the second kitchen became a utility and laundry room, very rare for the building, which has a commercial laundry in the basement.

Parks completely renovated the 1962 apartment, which has 2,625 square feet, three bedrooms, and three bathrooms.
“I wanted it to feel like fun and joyful, and hint at the original spirit of the building,” he said. “We re-exposed the original 1960s windows and got them working again. We also exposed the concrete columns with their contractor scribbles. The building is over-engineered and built incredibly well. The floors are 16-inch deep waffle slabs.”
The entry was reworked to be perpendicular. By doing so, Parks and Haji gained a 40-foot view along the south end of the building from one bedroom, down the living room to the other bedrooms. “You can feel the scale and sense of space,” he said.

Parks also opened up the kitchen, which in these Turtle Creek North condos is typically tucked away as a service area. By integrating it into the living and dining spaces, the kitchen became a central, open space designed for entertaining — setting this unit apart from others in the building.
The result is, as Parks has described on his website, “a dynamic juxtaposition of muscular interior architecture and boldly colored, textural furnishings. Our scope included architecture and interior design, including custom furniture.”
Having a partner who is a psychotherapist involved in the renovation was particularly helpful.
“Ali has a more intuitive approach to colors,” Parks said. “He views color as a proxy for different emotions, so that was helpful in determining what colors we used.”
Even the beloved doorman, FC Brown, who has been at the building since it opened in 1963, was an advantage when work was underway. He remembered the original blue lacquer cabinet colors in the kitchen, and that provided the inspiration for the resulting palette.

Of course, this Turtle Creek North condo has been a darling of the media since it was completed, with Architectural Digest being among the first to feature it last August. Dallas-based photographer Lisa Petrole, who specializes in interior design, architectural, and lifestyle photography, provided the fabulous images you see here.

And remember, you never know who you might see walking down the hall!
Wowsers. Frankly a steal. A TC home that size is hard to find in such construction. Wonderful feature.
