Ravinia Heights

Ravinia Heights has the charm of Little Forest Hills with the topography of Bluffview, but at a much more affordable price point. Homes are set well back from the road, so it’s quiet and private. Architectural styles here vary from 1920s Tudor cottages to cool 1950s midcentury ranches, like this one on South Ravinia Street.

The cool factor here, however, came from hard work. Thani and Landon Burke, owners of Burke Building & Restoration, took this 1951 ranch to a new style level. When they discovered Ravinia Heights years ago, they bought a 1920s bungalow and restored and updated it. They were hooked.

“We caught the remodeling bug,” Thani said. “From 2017 onward, we’ve worked our way down the street, remodeling four houses on South Ravinia alone. Each one has a different personality, a different soul, so we never repeat the same design. This house is a perfect example of how you can jazz up a ranch and add personality.”

The Burkes transformed this midcentury ranch by adding a large dormer above the front entry to allow light to wash through the home. They also created a large, welcoming front porch. The front patio and drive areas are, in fact, a great entertainment space.

One of the most eye-catching elements is the front door. After purchasing a plain door, the Burkes had their carpenter create a starburst design, then painted it a bold orange. It sets the stage for what lies beyond: vaulted ceilings, smooth-finish walls, warm hardwood floors, and an open floor plan.

After taking the 1,829-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home to the studs, they opened up the living space and centered it around an iconic Midcentury Modern preway fireplace with the distinctive three-legged design.

The clean-lined kitchen was sited to overlook the backyard and features honed marble countertops, a generous waterfall island, and premium appliances. You are going to fall in love with the bathrooms in this home, because they are a harmony of hues and textures.

All of the systems were updated, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Spray-foam insulation ensures not only an energy-efficient home, but also a quiet one to ensure the ranch lives as comfortably as it looks.

This Ravinia Heights midcentury ranch is set on a little over a third of an acre with expansive grounds and tranquil creek views. Although you’ll feel as if you were in a secluded nature retreat, remember you are also only minutes from the lively Bishop Arts District.

Thani is also a Realtor with Compass RE Texas. She’s offering this midcentury ranch at 406 S Ravinia St. for $799,900.

You can see it this Sunday, March 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the open house.
