Plumbing Probs

If you are a homeowner, plumbing problems are unfortunately about as inevitable as the tides. But the last thing you want when you purchase a home is to be faced with leaky or clogged pipes, faucets that won’t run, drains that don’t drain, or what-have-you right out of the gate in your new house. A thorough home inspection can keep surprise plumbing problems from ruining the sparkle of your new house.

Here are some awesome catches our inspectors made recently that kept home buyers from being surprised with plumbing problems in their new homes:

Water in the Wall

The diverter pushing water into the wall could be causing major damage to the wall, the floor, and beyond, depending on how long it’s been going on. They’ll need to call in a plumber to assess the damage and get that faucet functioning properly.

Why Check the Sewer Line in a New Construction Home?

Sooooo many things can happen during the construction of a new home. That’s why it’s important to get newly built homes inspected. Here, Inspector Brian is doing a sewer scope inspection and finds what we call a space suit clogging the line. These are the disposable white suits workers wear when they’re painting or installing insulation or working with materials they don’t want to get on their clothes. Looks like someone flushed it down the toilet. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Back in the Shower …

In this case, nothing appears to be wrong in this shower to the naked eye. But when Inspector Luis takes a look with his thermal camera, you can see there appears to be a leak behind the wall from the shower head. These buyers will want to have a plumber take a look at the inside of the shower head to check for damage and evidence of a leak.

As I said, if there’s one thing you can count on with plumbing, it’s that at some point, something’s going to go wrong. Maybe I’m just bitter because I have bad luck with plumbing. Anywho, it’s one of the five major systems of your house, and it’s important to learn as much as possible about a home’s plumbing before you buy, so make sure you get a thorough home inspection!
