Achieve Palm Springs Vibes in East Dallas at a Great Price

Give us a well-kept, eye-catching Midcentury Modern any day of the week, and we’re going to write about it, but this one made me do a double-take. I think it’s the simplicity of the brick and stone exterior and landscaping (more on that later) against that fabulous blue. I had to dig into my color wheel to name that blue because it’s just that fabulous. My art pencils call it Helios Blue, and the closest I can come on the paint wheel is Dark Cobalt Blue, but that’s my best guess. It’s definitely My New Favorite Blue, I can tell you that.

This divine blue Midcentury Modern is the house that catches your eye on a lovely street in East Dallas, close to White Rock Lake, and it’s our Highlight Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters, Senior Loan Officer with First Horizon.

Enter to a foyer with vaulted ceilings and this stunning exposed brick wall planter that “showcases an exceptional Midcentury Modern aesthetic,” says listing agent Ed Murchison with Coldwell Banker Realty. Murchison is the MCM Dallas realtor, known for specializing in the style in his long career.

“One of the most striking things about the house are the original brick planters and the screen that really defines the space and provides visual interest,” Murchison said.

The kitchen sports polished concrete floors and a lofted ceiling with recessed lighting. The white Krion countertops perfectly complement the glass tile backsplash and crisp white cabinetry with warm leather pulls.

The breakfast area has this glorious picture window looking out over the front lawn and street and bringing a beautiful splash of light to the whole kitchen. It’s a great spot for a meal, or to set up a computer to do some work or read a book.

“A key thing that was done right in this house is so many of the windows are big picture windows,” Murchison said. “It’s so airy and bright feeling — the house has such a great energy about it.”

The dining room is spacious and elegant with convenient serving from the kitchen peninsula, elegant lighting, and the cool exposed brick wall separating it from the living area.

The living area is straight out of Palm Springs — light, bright, and MCM with a touch of contemporary. Murchison says that fireplace and the way the exposed brick lends texture to space is his favorite part of the house, and I tend to agree. Well, that and the blue. Vaulted ceilings and polished concrete floors add contribute to a spacious feel, and patio access allows ease of indoor-outdoor entertaining.

Speaking of outdoors, I mentioned I would come back to the landscaping. This stunning work along the front motorcourt isn’t quite what it seems. The agave plants are actually metal sculptures! Talk about low-maintenance landscaping! I have a new favorite part of this house.

And the backyard has a nice private patio off the living area, and plenty of green space and shade for family or pets.

This is a uniquely move-in-ready home that strikes the perfect balance of Midcentury Modern character and contemporary updates in a very attractive price range.

Ed Murchison with Coldwell Banker Realty has 1526 Oates Drive listed for $525,000.

Murchison will be holding an Open House this Sunday, September 28 from 2-4 pm.

What a lovely house! The article says, “Enter to a carpeted foyer…” but those are polished concrete floors, I believe. 🙂

Isn’t it? The downstairs floors are polished concrete, but the foyer is carpeted. The color almost matches the concrete so it’s hard to tell!

Homeowner here. Can confirm — concrete. No carpet anywhere.

My apologies! I was going based off the realtor’s written comments on the foyer photo in MLS which indicate there’s a carpet there! I will make the change now, thanks so much.

This home and the neighboring ones look like they may have originally been by Fox & Jacobs.
