When you live in Texas, there comes a time that I call the lakehouse lightbulb moment. It’s when you are tired of staying with friends, and renting just does not cut it anymore. Your own lake house becomes a necessity because it’s where those important summer and holiday memories are made.

Amanda and Randy Crawford had their lightbulb moment before most people. This Cedar Creek lakehouse is not their first, but it’s one of those you don’t ever want to leave, and it’s why they call it home year-round.

“There are only nine houses here,” Amanda said. “It’s a gated community, and we are the only full-time folks, so once the weather cools off, we are pretty much here by ourselves!”

They turned to Cindy Batten with Lakhouse Outfitters/Decorating Den Interiors to help create that luxurious, laid back lakehouse look we all love. The Crawfords’ 3,102-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home was designed with an open floor plan concept to flow right to the outdoor living spaces, where most of the entertaining takes place. This outdoor space is over the top, featuring phantom screens, overhead radiant heaters, and an outdoor fireplace, so you can truly enjoy it all year.

Of course, the other all-important gathering place in any Cedar Creek lakehouse is the kitchen. This one is not only beautiful with quartz countertops and a 4 x 8 foot island,  but it’s also practical with a tremendous amount of storage.

And who doesn’t love a primary suite overlooking the lake? To get up and immediately have that vista greet you is just heavenly.

Upstairs, you will find two bedrooms, an office space, and one of my favorite places in any lakehouse: the bunkroom. Kids go bananas over bunkrooms. In addition to actual lake activities, being tucked into their bunks, staying up late with their siblings or cousins, and swapping stories late at night while the grown-ups are partying on the deck make for childhood memories that last a lifetime.

Most people don’t understand how essential it is to have a pool, even at the lake. It’s the answer to your prayers when dad’s not ready to pull the boat out yet but the kids are antsy, or when you just want a late-night or early-morning swim.

“When you walk in the door of our house, you get a sense of peace,” Amanda said. “You can see out the back door to the pool and the lake. We love the water and taking the boat out when Randy gets home from work. It’s so peaceful.”

The boathouse has Trex decking and a touchless cover for the boat with an additional lift for a Sea-Doo.

The Crawfords aren’t leaving the lake. No, they are moving across it, and building a bigger home because once you fall in love with lake life, you don’t leave.

Ebby Halliday’s Shelly Brown Qualls and Rob Schrickel of the Brown-Qualls and Schrickel Group have this Cedar Creek lakehouse at 2579 Homestead Ct. in Tool, TX available for $1.799 million.

Open House: Sunday, September 7, from  1 to 3 p.m.
