For this CandysDirt.com post, I’m loath to veer too far afield from my vacay spot as I’m pleasantly parked near the Adriatic in the Veneto — far from the Mediterranean Sea. But the Italianate nature of this splendid Crestline estate I found near River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth can’t be denied. And the exceptional quality of its construction and uniqueness and the rainy day outside my windows takes the sting out of this brief interruption from my holiday.

Resembling more an austere Tuscan fortress softened by time, the property at 1108 Pebble Creek Rd. is breeched by a pair of imposing, somber doors that open to a columned “cloister,” which leads to the front door. Built in 2010 by the current owners, the 7,200 square foot, three-bedroom, four-and-one-half bath home is built into a one-acre hillside lot and sited to capture 360-degree breathtaking vistas.

The masculine sobriety of the stone, which clads all exterior and many interior walls, is mitigated by contrasting marble columns and floors.

The living room wraps around one of the house’s two fireplaces. Massive windows frame glorious views. A corridor leads to the formal dining room. Ceilings at ground floor level are an impressive fourteen feet in height.

The dining room is capped by a dome. Everywhere, walls are finished with Venetian plaster. Yes, that really is a thing. The walls in my hotel are covered in this softly variegated luminescent finish.

The second living room, in my view more impressive and more traditionally formal than the first, boasts custom carved built ins and an extravagant fireplace that reminds me of the excesses of Catalan architect Gaudí. This pleasingly proportioned room features a centered barrel vault running the length of space.

The star feature of the kitchen are the bespoke cabinets from the Jason Scott Collection milled in exotic Indonesian teak.

A flex room at ground level currently used a a game/entertainment room could easily be repurposed to up the bedroom count to four.

The spacius primary suite is attached to a lavish bathroom which includes an enormous tiled shower stall, double sink vanities and soaker tub with a view.

Elegant columns resting on balustraded plynths enclose multiple second floor balconies.

At back is a sylvan oasis which has the feel of unspoiled nature tucked away from urban cares.

Martha Williams of Williams Trew Real Estate is offering 1108 Pebble Creek Road for 6.95 million.
